Suspect Smart Meters not working

As you know I’m on a different tariff to you and the half hourly consumptions are of no relevance to me in my billing. What I’m struggling to understand is what benefit you would gain from near real-time data? As you’ve shown the recorded data is corrected after a few days , so what is the value in earlier data to you? I can see that your researches are throwing up valuable insights into the recording systems and their data which we must relate to. On my own stuff I’ve noticed that bright information can be missing data for some time slots which magically appear hours later but to me it’s just a quirk of the system, and it’s irrelevant to me as I’m billed from readings. And for you , billed from totalled half hourly consumptions, the built in time delay from the end of your billing period to actual production of the bill means that your billing is correct too.

So are your endeavours mainly driven for a desire for full understanding rather than anything else?

PS I’m glad you are looking into all this (somebody should as a quality assurance exercise) and delighted that, at the moment, our billing is actually correct.

Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and think the smart meter programme is a waste of our money. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

I'm planning to go solar/battery/home automation etc, using "Home assistant" MQTT etc, so requires CAD with real time data to manage all this

Good luck with that, well above my pay grade or level of expertise!

Good evening all, just a quick update, absolutely nothing at all from Eon, over 14 days from me raising this issue and the same again from Indyk forwarding it to 'The Smart Team', maybe it would have been more beneficial forwarding it to The Speedy Team.

They are obviously aware that there are problems with my smart meters as earlier today I logged into my account and they are asking me to submit my meter readings, they normally issue my statement around the 24th of the month.

To say that I'm annoyed would be putting it mildly, dreadful service.

I'll give their customer service dept a bell tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind, if that fails, I'll get my MP involved, she was a big supporter of the push for smart meters.

Is your gas data getting through either to bright or eon next? You say bright is showing your half hourly electricity consumption data, but are your readings (both fuels) being taken?

Your problem with the Ivie bud isn’t really Eon Next’s problem - it not something they have responsibility for. The do have some responsibility for the original IHD , although they may deny that. For years suppliers have rejected responsibility for IHD failures after 12 months - regarding them as “a nice to have “ rather than the main consumer part of the setup as shown on TV. The situation is changing with OFGEM likely to issue new guidance sometime soon. So at the moment there’s little mileage in trying to get the original IHD functional or in getting a replacement. I wish it were otherwise but it’s not. I wish you luck with that.

To comment further we need to understand the current situation, hence the questions in the first paragraph above.

Good morning, not having checked the Bright app for 10 days or so, I have just done so and both the electricity and gas usage figures are now showing, Eon are not showing anything since 28/05/25, the Ivie app is showing electricity only.

I'm not expecting Eon to help with the Ivie Bud, I am just looking for confirmation from them that the meters are sending them current data so that I can then go back to Ivie and confirm same.

As Eon are now asking me for meter readings, something which hasn't occured since I signed up with them, it would indicate that there is a problem somewhere, I'll be ringing them shortly

If gas and electricity are showing in the Bright app then your meters are certainly communicating with the DCC.

Stranger and stranger, approximately an hour ago I started up the Ivie Bud, within seconds it connected to the meters, unlike before where it just constantly rebooted, it is now displaying the correct time, however, after almost an hour it is not displaying meter readings, MPAN or MPRN and is waiting for supply status of both electricity and gas.

Curiouser and curiouser 🤔. Gut response is leave everything running and see if anything happens over night 🤞. Your IHD has connected to the coms unit and your meters are talking to the DCC.

I have had smart meters since 2017 and it's not unusual for them to stop being smart 😂.
It wouldn't surprise me if the BOL is part of the issue. I'm no expert but just got a feeling 👴.
Manual reads are the order of the day for me at the moment. As for my steam powered IHD it's great as a desktop clock. 😉

    @superdave.

BOL = business operation level .

things are generally moving in the right direction, but so slowly.

Re Eon Next - they will hold in your account only readings that they have specifically requested. Their app should show much the same data as Bright - that is consumption in set time periods but NOT readings.

As the meters and comms hub are demonstrably working to some extent, the suggestion that the problem lies in the BOL has some validity, the problem being only Eon Next will really know and getting some transparency from them is unlikely. Hope I’m wrong though.
