My Moving experience (from Octopus)

    1) I was moving a TOU tariff, and was slightly discouraged by the 'we will put you on flexible for some period' approach. If you said 'we will then backdate the new TOU tariff to the start date once we get the smart meter readings' I would be less alarmed.

    2) Having arrived, on day 1, the app/website tell me I "have a problem, smart meter readings not being received" (no surprise there) 'please enter a manual reading'. If you do this on the website/PC you get "No meter reading details available We’re still getting your meter details. Once we have these you’ll be able to give us your meter readings through your online account.". If you do it on a tablet the screen just goes blank after you enter all the digits.

    3) Would be really nice to have some API or CSV download to get at the HH meter readings being used to generate billings (I do not need the 50 page detailed / pdf bills as produced by Octopus each month, just the data).

    4) I would like to pay for what I use (Variable DD), rather than banking with my Electricity supplier. This option exists, but requires CS staff to actually action it. Seems like not good use of CS staff time!

    5) Moving export (SEG) was much less straightforward. Despite being on SEG with Octopus and having a smart meter / mpan for export, the documentation requires me to submit everything back to the start of the universe. Having done that I got an email saying 'you are on the fit register with Octopus, you need to tell them you want to opt out of deemed export'. Well I did that X years ago, else I would not have an export mpan. I am on FIT only for generation payments.

The documentation talks about sending photos (of meter) once a year and receiving cheques. Clearly this has not been updated for the 21st century - it's a SMART METER, read it the same way you read import!! Cheques are rather 19th century, no?

The documentation is also a tad unclear about the rules for exporting from battery ('brown energy', though it was ;green energy' when Eon sold it to me and I put it into the battery). National SEG rules say suppliers CAN, but are not OBLIGED TO, pay for battery exports (Octopus and several others do). (They ARE OBLIGED to pay for generated energy). Eon's position needs clarifying, officially.

I am not unhappy, I just think there are some possible improvements in there!

@GSV3MiaC - if you download & register with the Bright app, you'll then have access to the Glowmarkt CSV download, or to use the Glow API

I started off downloading & processing the Glow CSV in Excel, but now do a daily data read using the Glow API which I load into a mySql database giving instant access/analysis of my ½ hourly consumption

Have a look at this thread for further info https://community.eonnext.com/thread...-Data-download

@geoffers Thanks. I already use the Bright api, but recently it has been missing some data which the Octopus api gets OK,. I also have a glow ihd on the way for instant data. I would prefer to grab what Eon are using for billing, then I can see if they are missing any.

👍 I've been checking my Next Drive bills using the Glow data for 2 years, and haven't found any discrepancies. The ½ hourly data being picked up from the meter is the same for both of them.

It's just a question of whether EOn's bill processing of the ToU data is correct (particularly regarding BST/GMT times) which does seem to be the case 🤓

I assume the offpeak times are local time related, not like E7, which are stuck in gmt/utc, due to old mechanical meters?

One update.. I switched to next drive tariff already (day 2) which is amazingly fast, though I did ask for the switch online in my account, as well as on joining. Seems meter readings are arriving too, since it has quit bugging me for one. Just need to sort out SEG, and the variable DD now. 🙂

The meter records usage in UTC (which you presumably see with your Glow data access)

The EOn billing takes account of the clock change, so the ToU costs are always based on local time 👍

BTW my variable DD was sorted quickly on the phone to C.S

Hi GSV3MiaC, interesting to read your switching experience. I have just switched from Octopus. My supply was switched around midnight as promised and I am now waiting for my Tariff to switch to Next Drive. Did yours happen during the day randomly on day 2 or at midnight?

I think it happened from start of day2, but hard to tell exactly. As soon as I had an account I logged on, and selected change tariff, and next thing I knew it was showing as next drive.I expect it would have happened automagically anyway, but I thought I would poke it, just in case. Now if only export would swap .. Last I looked they were wittering about FIT, which is not involved ..
