@Poppy_EONNext ...and are told by an E.On customer service advisor that an EV is required .... What advice can you give when these circumstances arise please?
@brevs - I've been on the Next Drive tariff for nearly 1½ years (with an EV), so although their t&cs say that an EV is required there's never been a requirement to validate ownership.
I didn't engage in phone contact with C.S (where you may get told all sorts) - I did it all via email/online with no problems.
@geoffers it’s only the v5 terms and conditions that have introduced the ‘EV required’ in the eligibility section in 3.2. None of the previous iterations of the terms and conditions had this in them.
unless it’s essential for operation of the tariff ( eg to operate a time of use tariff a smart meter is an essential component) I think restrictions like needing an EV just annoy customers.
consumers consume and pay for that, suppliers supply - and charge accordingly. Are energy companies suppliers of energy, or advertising agents for EV makers?
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

Agreed - it does seem very unfair and discriminatory, insisting that you need an EV to take advantage of the cheap overnight electricity.
An EV is just a vehicle which happens to have a battery in it, so why can't the tariff cover folk with static batteries too
plus people without any form of battery as well, since the whole point of cheap overnight leccy is to encourage load-shifting ... if people want to turn on their tumble dryer at midnight or cook a chicken at 5:30am, why not let them also
That's exactly what Economy 7 allows. That's been around for decades. Electricity should cost the same at night whether you charge a car or use the tumble drier! Why they have to give a dozen different tariffs with different names and different conditions instead of a single 'universal' dual-rate tariff is a bit of a mystery to me! You pay for the electricity at the low rate, whatever you choose to use it for. If you want to use electricity at peak times, you pay more. Simples.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

Exactly, in terms of pricing/costs 👍
However, doesn't Economy-7 use a different type of meter, with some kind of time/switch mechanism to supply/record the different rate leccy, as opposed to Smart meters which record every half-hour's worth of usage, with the billing applying the correct TOU tariff value to calculate the usage costs.
Economy 7 did traditionally rely on a dual rate meter, or an RTS system with remote switching, but would work equally well with a smart meter set to provide half-hourly readings.
All smart meters have the facility to switch heating loads. A five terminal meter has the 100A auxiliary contacts built in, but most four terminal smart meters meters have the ability to drive an external contactor if need be.
@Poppy_EONNext I am a member of a Facebook group concerned with EV / Solar / Battery owners who are either interested in, or have already switched to E.On NextDrive. As well as that, there is also a great deal of interest in the new solar tariff mentioned earlier.
Every day we see reports from users wanting to switch to NextDrive from either another supplier or, from an earlier version of NextDrive, and are told by an E.On customer service advisor that an EV is required when we know that is not the case. This is extremely frustrating for those customers that do not have an EV.
What advice can you give when these circumstances arise please?
Many thanks.
@Poppy_EONNext, has there been any progress on this? I am one of those users without an EV wanting to switch to Next Drive but have been told by customer services via phone and WhatsApp that I can't.
