IHD Tariff Update Request More Troublesome Than Normal

    I haven't got a scooby what's going on tbh 🤔😂

I actually only started this thread to say I was finding it more difficult than usual to get an update. I honestly didn't expect many, if any, replies. I only glance at the IHD to see how we're doing each day as I have an idea what it should be reading. I know how much it really costs me, of course, so with only slightly wrong rates showing, it's close enough for me. Thing is, if it never gets fixed, the gap between what shows on the IHD and what I get charged will get bigger. Then I had the issue with the exit fees and the complaint and it all snowballed.

What I think though, judging by the amount of views this thread has had, is that the correct rates showing on the IHD is very important to some customers and they would like the issue sorted.

    I wish I earned even 1p per hit 🤣

I wonder if we're dwelling too much on the meter/IHD rate readings - they won't be the actual rates used in the billing process.

I've yet to receive a bill, but in the communications I've had so far with customer services I've been assured that the bill calculations will be correct using the proper rates, and the values on the meter are only indicative values, as there is apparently an issue with getting the correct rates to display at the moment.

OK, they should be correct, so the customer can exactly see what their usage cost is, but as someone has already said here they calculate their own true costs by taking the displayed kWh and multiplying by their known rate

TBH I personally couldn't care less what the IHD (or even the meter) shows re the tariff and the £ usage as I, like some, are quite happy to 'do their own thing' along the lines you outline . I only rely on the IHD to give me a daily usage (in kWh) of what I have used the previous day and use this metric in my spreadsheets that I update daily.

The bills are def correct as I was billed (correctly) on my v4 Loyalty tariff rates when I received my first bill on August 1st.

The problem, as I see it, are the numerous customers that are heavily reliant on the £ used daily totals. They may not have spreadsheet skills (or even basic computational skills) and/or they may be on pre-payment meters so faithfully assume that the IHD is telling them the £ truth, which it seldom does. I'm now wondering just how many folk out there are now reliant on this IHD £ crutch. However did we all manage pre-smart meters?

We managed just fine, and those of us with traditional meters still do! I've asked it before and I'll ask it again. Other than automatically sending readings to the supplier, (which manually takes me two minutes out of my life once a month) what do smart meters bring to the party other than stress and confusion?!!

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

@retrotecchie, that's the view from the customers point of view at the moment.

However the ability for the customer to view their usage is only a minor aspect of the whole smart meter infrastructure development.

With the growing demands on the grid; the push for greener energy; EV charging; heat pumps etc etc etc the whole supply infrastructure is going to need to become much more finely tuned.

From what I understand the energy suppliers themselves are charged per half hour depending on demand, so the ultimate aim of things like the time of use tariffs is to feed this right back to the customer

i.e I think some of the new ToUs are going to notify the customer in real time when these peaks and troughs in supply and therefore cost are occurring, and give them the option to adjust their usage according to the cheaper rates, when they occur during times of lower demand

    Or summat like that...🤓

You can look at graphs in Bright (or at least I used to be able to before that went belly up on me 🙄) and ask the family, 'Who got up at 3am and boiled a kettle?' 😂

If anyone boils a kettle at 3am round here, it'll be me!

You know what you said about the only benefit of smart meters is that they send monthly readings? Well... I was just thinking about where my monthly bill has got to. Had a look in my account and smart reads have not been taken since 6 July. None taken on 6 Aug. Will this pleasure never end? 😢

Had a feeling that at some point you would say that! 😉
