This tariff is unlikely to attract any expiring Next Drive users. Deals are supposed to get better not considerably worse!
Next Drive Fixed V6. Love Smart Meters but don’t trust them enough to stop me downloading DCC 30 minute data via Glowmarkt and comparing with EON billing. EON spot on so far 😄
Deals are supposed to get better not considerably worse!
Deals reflect the prevailing conditions at the time, taking into account the wholesale market and other suppliers pricing. If pricing always had to fall we would all be happy - but that's not the way it works. Retailers (and essentially Eon Next is a retailer) sometimes price products as loss leaders to entice people in and then raise prices later.
But in the long term if they don't price products so that they are profitable, they'll go bust!
When does version 7 expire? I don't have solar, or an EV or batteries, just asking out of interest.

Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and think the smart meter programme is a waste of our money. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Currently the Next Smart Saver Tariff is our Time of Use tariff for customers with a solar storage system, we are unsure at this stage if any further tariffs will be available.
Was there anything in particular you were looking for? 😊
It's a joke of a tariff and you'll lose customers simply. This move feels like solar+battery users are getting penalised for being a green alternative to grid using at peak times.
I asked above when V7 expires. The point being that if it’s a 12 month contract expiring mid 2026, there’s plenty of time for a better deal to emerge to meet the needs of battery system owners who don’t have an EV. So if V7 is no longer available and the alternative available to non EV customers isn’t that attractive, then what will happen is that new customers will not join, not that current customers will leave. For nearly a year who is getting penalised?
This is a rapidly developing market segment and the future path may not be smooth. Whether V8 is a misstep or not remains to be to be seen and obviously depends on a personal viewpoint.
I truly get how frustrating the new eligibility criteria can be.
Please know that we're always working to introduce new tariffs designed to better meet what our customers need.
If you're currently on the Next Drive tariff without an EV, you can absolutely stay on it until your fixed term ends 🙂

We're keeping the same great rates as Next Drive V7, the key difference is we've updated the eligibility criteria. Customers with solar storage systems are no longer eligible unless they also own an electric vehicle. If you're currently a Next Drive customer, the updates will apply upon your next renewal.
Morning @gesson
Next Drive V8 doesn't have to have a charger and is non specific on EV. It does require a communicating smart meter set for 30 minute reads. There is a Next Drive Smart V4 which is EV specific.

What I was hoping for was something which closer resembled the wholesale prices on both the import and the export side, so a lower rate overnight on both import and export, peak rate on both import and export at the peak times, and so forth.
Effectively a 'grid support' tariff, where you are making use of everyone's batteries to even out the load on the grid. There is no incentive at the moment to export when the power is actually needed. I keep reading about huge gas power stations firing up for brief periods to supply the extra peak power at enormous cost, surely this can be done via batteries instead. Similarly, large curtailment payments are being made to absorb surplus power, this could be stored in our batteries too.
@WyndStryke well there is DFS / saving sessions / whatever you call it, but Eon don't appear to be among the bidders (yet?) and recently the auction rewards have been pathetic.
