Hello. I've been in lengthy comms with Eon about the fact that my Economy 7 circuit does not kick in at the correct off-peak times. To clarify, I have had a Smart Meter for 2 years now. Initially they said they would send an engineer to adjust the times on the meter, if this could not be done remotely.
Now Eon says
"The meter does not activate the cylinders / system to switch between peak & off-peak. This is done by the system / wiring."

They say I need to engage an electrician to change timers that aren't part of the Smart Meter, but I don't have any other timers. I've looked endlessly to try to understand if there's any other timer, but everything I read suggests this is entirely Eon's responsibility.
I've now also realised that there is virtually no off-peak usage registered whatsoever. Usage of any appliance up till 3am is registered on the day meter (I had to go to bed then!)
Can anyone offer an explanation as to what might be going on, and what Eon means by their comment above? I'm at my wit's end! Thank you.

@Beasel can you post a picture of your meter with particular focus on the wiring below the meter? This will help the diagnosis.

also how much of your consumption is at peak and then off peak over a whole year and separately in the period covering January.

To explain I live alone in a small flat 65sqm. I am away from mid-December to mid February (which is why I've taken the closest winter reading for November.) I have only a water cylinder operating on Economy 7.

OK, ignoring the junction box bottom left with one live wire input (future expansion for garage or car charger?), everything is a standard 5 terminal setup (sometimes called ecomomy7)

The meter is (or should be) providing the switching - this is up to E.ON to configure.

There are two sets of timings to consider and they both need to be set the same! One is the tariff timing - the time that the meter switches over from recording against day and night usage.

The other is the switching time for the 5th terminal - the auxiliary load - in this case, your heating / hot water circuit.

Try again to get through to someone competent at E.On or hopefully one of the E.On folk on here will be able to help take it up for you.

@geoffers Thank you, I do appreciate this, but find this too complex for my simple brain! To clarify, Eon has confirmed I have two sets of off-peak times, 22.30-00.30 and then 02.30-07.30.
Also since I live in apartment my IHD is too far away from the meter to pick up any readings. It now no longer even charges up any more.

going back to your original query, the photo shows a 5th terminal which should be energised during your off peak period(s). Assuming that is all working OK, there then arises the question of how your hot water is heated outside of that. Usually there is a way of giving a top up or boost. This would be something that would be your responsibility, not your energy supplier.

from the details of your consumption you supplied I suspect that your hot water isn’t being heated in the off peak periods, as I’d expect the off peak consumption would be higher. I’m no expert but there have been cases where the meter switching to the 5th cable is not happening as it should. More investigation is necessary by a qualified person on site.
