Is smart v4 worth it?

Just trying to work out if smart v4 is better than standard v7.

The only difference I can see in pricing is 0.5p off-peak. I use an average of 14kWh per night on EV/Dishwasher/Hot water - so smart v4 would save me about 7p/day or about £25 a year.

This thread Leaving Next Drive Smart V2 - E.ON Next Community suggests that it might take 15 mins every time I plug in for the system to realise that and set up a schedule. If I charge twice a week and the delay is only 10 minutes, then that will cost me an extra 100x1.25kwh*20p = £25 a year - so no advantage of smart!

How long is the delay after plugging in before a schedule is calculated and charging stops?

edit - smart v3 was better with the lower peak rate and standing charge.

@blanik - I guess it all depends on your charging/usage requirements.

AFAIK: They both have seven hours at 6.7p, so if you can do all the charging you need overnight I don't see the point of the smart tariff.

However if you do need some extra top-up charging in the daytime (although you won't necessarily know when that's going to be) I guess it could be a suitable choice.

Smart V4 is definitely 6.2p off-peak, and as far as I know the last target time is 11am - so no daytime charging.
Doesn't look worth the risk/hassle for the small saving.

I have read of another person on the similar Octopus IOG who uses the 11am finish to charge a 2nd car with o/p electricity, but that does not apply to us.

@blanik - Agreed 👍 ... it would be interesting to hear from people who are already on the Drive Smart tariff how many additional daytime slots they are getting (and when), on top of the 7hr nighttime cheap leccy.

If your car is set up to charge on a schedule at night then it wouldn't start charging when plugged in, only when EOn change the schedule would it start ? Is that not how it works ??

I am currently on this tariff and it has been a nightmare to set up. I have lost count of how many times I have installed and uninstalled the app and cleared the cache and memory to get it to work. Also I don't know how many times my car refused to connect to the app
I have tried numerous times to charge the car during the day but nothing shows on the app and it shows as unplugged even though it's charging the car.
If I try to charge during the daytime anyway all that happens is that the car takes nearly half the charge from my storage batteries and only half from the grid. This means that my batteries are depleted sooner and I have to take power from the grid at 28p later in the day ,so even if I could charge my car at 6.2p during the day, this would defeat any benefit.
According to the app schedule the latest leave time you can set is 1100 hrs so I don't understand how you can charge later in the day anyway.
I still have no idea how you know when you are being charged the cheap daytime rate and now when the car charges at nighttime it keeps stopping saying the car is full, even though the car states that it hasn't reached the % charge set.
I have tried to talk directly to the Drive team for some guidance but I have been told they are too busy to make outgoing calls.
I am not surprised they are busy, this tariff and app appears to be a right hash up and I really think that more thought should have been put into it before implementation.
Hopefully someone from their Innovations Team will eventually get in contact with me and put me out of my misery.
