My guess is that it comes down to how much businesses want to spend on apps, and how reliable they are the more complex they become. I'd rather have apps that just do what I need rather than a fully loaded app that has sections that I don't need and aren't as reliable.
More complex apps tend to have more updates and subsequently more bugs. -
