Sending my details to random people

Basically the title. Random people are getting my personal details texted to them by EON claiming some **** about a smart meter.

Why is this happening, and who do i contact to get this to stop?

I am a renter that has no control over what my landlord does to the electric meters. There is no reason whatsoever to send my personal details to people who are not me.

What the hell is going on?

Can I ask that you be specific as to what personal details are being texted to other people? Name address, account number.

Presumably if the messages are by text then your details have been linked to mobile numbers that are not yours.

we cannot solve this for you as were other customers for the most part. You need to contact customers services with all the evidence you have. Personally I would use email as you then have a full audit trail of the company response. Almost certainly this is breach of data protection, and you my need to go to the data commissioner with your concerns.
do not post personal information here, this is a public forum. Contact details are in the box below.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and think the smart meter programme is a waste of our money. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

@runeseeer further to what @meldrewreborn has said: presumably when you say that your details are being texted to random people, the fact that you're aware of these people being texted must mean they're friends from your own contacts???

Could this not therefore be a case of your own device/contacts etc having been hacked and therefore compromised?

Recently a friend's Gmail account got hacked and we (his contacts) started receiving spoofed emails from third parties, which could then be traced back to his account details.

That could be correct, some sort of scam / hacking going on and using Eon Next as a complete diversion. We cannot see the messages so it difficult to judge, certainly in this situation clicking on links isn’t advisable. And which person might have been compromised isn’t clear. Contacting customer services might clarify things a little.

    Hey @runeseeer 👋

    How are you?

Welcome to our Eon Next community, I am Indy one of Nexties here 😊

So it seems as though you have been contacted via text for a smart meter installation? Now we do have outsource team who contact our customers on Eon's behalf to book appointments but I am not able to confirm if this is them without checking, so I would advise to contact our customer services team or drop me a dm with your account details and I will take a look from our end.

Look forward to hearing from you 😊
