@rwh202 ...most people just don’t appreciate the costs involved in heating water....
If you have a regular boiler (ie with hot water tank), one of the benefits of being on the Next Drive tariff is you can use the cheap rate electricity to heat your water, which my real-life testing shows works out cheaper than using the gas.
I've got a smart immersion heater switch like this https://g.co/kgs/NbbNg6L, and schedule it to turn on for around 40mins in the morning which gives enough warm water for hand washing; dishes etc. Then I can easily turn it on for longer via the Google Home app to heat enough water for an occasional bath.
I know there's supposedly a requirement to maintain the tank at 600C to prevent legionnaires disease, but so long as you give it a hot blast every so often it should keep the little blighters at bay 😉.
I don’t have solar PV or an EV or battery storage, but as my annual electrify usage is now only about 1600 kWh annually I don’t feel that disadvantaged. At the moment we’re fairly free to choose how we heat our homes and water. But I get the feeling that coercion is looming.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and think the smart meter programme is a waste of our money. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
the authorities have their sights on wood burners too! I’ll stay on gas as long as I can.
I think that the way the strike price works for setting the wholesale price of electricity doesn’t favour consumers but does favour many including the government who levy windfall taxes on excess profits of generators, so they have no incentive to reduce the strike price.
