One of the biggest questions we get when Solar Panels are installed, is during the application process for the Smart Export Guarantee scheme.

We need a photo of the Export reading to proceed with the application and we're often asked how to find this?
Do you know how to locate the read? Hopefully the next couple of threads about this could help you 😃

Export readings are always taken from the Smart Electricity meter, now there are quite a few different meter types out there, so I thought i'd do a breakdown 🙂

Let's start off by looking at the manufacturer: Elster -



Elster AS300P

1. Press the centre button to access the menu.
2. Select "general" using the middle button.
3. Scroll to "Total registers" using the lower button and select using the middle button.
4. Scroll using the lower button to Total Export in KWH

Elster A300P BABAASY1-P

Start by pressing the middle button on your meter.
You’ll see one of the following options ‘General’ or ‘Utility menu’.

If your meter has a ‘General’ option, follow these steps 👇

1. Press the middle button again to select the ‘General’ option.
2. Press the bottom button, then the middle button, to select ‘Total reg’.
3. Your screen should now show ‘Cum. Imp.’.
4. Press either the top or bottom button to show the ‘Cum. Exp.’ screen. This figure is your reading (Cumulative Export).

If your meter has a ‘Utility menu’ option, follow these steps 👇

1. Press the middle button again to select the ‘Utility menu’ option.
2. Press the bottom button twice, then the middle button, to select ‘Dial Test’.
3. Your screen should now show ‘Cum. Imp.’.
4. Press either the top or bottom button to show the ‘Cum. Exp.’ screen. This figure is your reading (Cumulative Export).

Elster A1140

The display on the meter cycles through this sequence with consecutive presses of the right hand YELLOW button.
The display will return to the default display automatically after approximately 20 secs; any button presses after this will start the sequence from the beginning.
The display has the reading (complete with any applicable register multiplier by the addition of “0” in a smaller font size).
The reading energy quantity and an arrow showing whether import or export (Arrow pointing right = Import, Arrow pointing left = Export).
