Eon electric readings don't match my actual meter

    You are reading correctly, and your calculated figure for rate 2 is apparently correct. Whether rate 1 is daytime or night time is a perennial problem - there's no consistency.

    Observation of when rate 1 increments will tell you. Also you should be able to establish if the total figure increments both day time and night time – I’m beginning to suspect it will not. I’m beginning to wonder if the readings on the meter are actually for day and night, and not rate 1 and total, despite how they’re labelled.
    As it is the total appears to have incremented 70 kWh in 10 days - so about 7 kWh per day. That’s far less than half your apparent usage over 189 days, so something is clearly amiss here and I suspect it will need a replacement meter to resolve.

    Getting hold of previous smart readings via the bright app will help to provide real evidence of what is going on here. I've made this point in other threads but it bears repeating here, the readings that show on your bill are specially requested by Eon Next sending a message to your meter and getting the appropriate response. There will also be the more frequent readings sent automatically, but these are not used for billing. I’m imagining a coding error is pulling the wrong data from your meter since the switch in tariff. Just like the others here , I’m trying to make sense of all this but based on incomplete information.
    Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

    @meldrewreborn thank you for your reply. I would appreciate if you could tell me if I am reading the meter correctly and if not please tell me how. I have included two photos of what my meter shows when I click through and I have been using the larger figure which says total to work out the usage. It doesn't show a second rate on the meter.

    The 884 usage for daytime use is worked out from my readings, Eon readings said I had used 2283.2. We are a 2 person 2 bed house.
    Just to confuse the issue even more - your L&G E470 meter doesn't look like mine - L&G unfortunately seemed to have a policy of keeping the same E470 meter name for multiple versions & upgrades so none of them are the same

    A bit of research shows that yours is probably an old generation Smets1 meter, so not sure if that is part of the problem ☹️

    @meldrewreborn I have taken some meter readings this evening before and after we cooked dinner. Both figures on the meter have gone up. I will take another reading at midnight with the car on charge and again in the morning and see what it shows then.

    @geoffers that could explain it, we have been in the house 6 years now and it was in when we moved in. Would it be us that would have to pay for a new meter or do the energy companies supply them for free do you know?

    its the liability of your supplier to pay for a meter exchange, if they consider it necessary - which can take some cogent arguments to convince.

    There is something definitely wrong with what data the meter is sending out compared to what it actually reads. I took a meter reading last night at midnight which read R1: 16447.4 Total: 24670.5 then again at 8am this morning R1: 16470.6 Total 24693.7 both have gone up by 23.2. The car charging app stated we used 22.7 so 23.2 seems about right for 0.5 to cover the general things running overnight. However the Bright app shows that between midnight and 8am we had used 36.8 units.

    I have attached the meter readings, car app data and bright app screenshot. Do my workings out seem right? Or am I missing something? do you think this will be enough evidence to take to Eon to get a new meter and to amend my overbilling since I changed tariff?

    @CharlotteEv - have you downloaded the raw ½ hourly data from the meter from glowmarkt.com

    This will match what you can see graphically on Bright, but if you then load the downloaded CSV file into a spreadsheet you will have the exact consumption usage for the hours in question, which is easier to analyse than looking at screenshots

    It does seem strange that the overall reading on the meter matches what you think you've used, but the hourly readings (which EOn use for billing) give different values, so maybe there is a meter issue

    As far as I understand it, for billing purposes the supplier makes a specific request for the readings, and has to get a reply with the data. The automatic readings are not used at all. This is why we get situations wher bright and Co can have data but no billing data is available.

    Yes, but on the Drive tariff they don't use the overall total kWh value, but use the ½ hourly TOU readings to allocate the correct tariff to the time of use

    From @CharlotteEv 's details it looks like the meter's overall kWh value looks about right compared to her charger readings, but the (½) hourly readings pulled from the meter and displayed on Bright (and used by EOn for billing) are giving a much higher cumulative total than this
