Not so smart gas meter
-
Hello, I moved into my flat 18 months ago, energy supplied by eon next, smart meters already fitted. The electric meter appears to be operating in smart mode, regularly sending readings, though tariff info on the IHD and meter is out of date, and has never changed since I took over the account. The gas meter has never operated smartly, when I check on the citizens advice checker, it doesn’t show on the smart meter data network, usage shows correctly on the IHD, so I assume it’s communicating with the comms hub, though like the electric, the tariff info is incorrect. LEDs marked SW, WAN, HAN and Gas on the comms hub all flash every 5 seconds, the one marked MESH stays off, is this correct? Just wondering if there’s a way of getting the gas meter working smartly, at least sending readings (correct tariff info on the display would be nice, but not essential…), I’ve tried eon customer service, but haven’t, so far, got beyond an acknowledgement of my emails. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

As far as tariff updates are concerned you could send an email entitled 'Smart Meter and IHD Tariff Update Request' to hi@eonnext.com and put your account and personal details in the text together with your request. This normally gets a reasonably speedy response and the tariffs then get updated overnight following the response. You never know, you might get lucky and your gas meter will also start communicating.
I wouldn't bank on the last bit so if you could post some photos of your meters, comms hub and IHD then perhaps one of our learned colleagues such as @theunknowntech or @retrotecchie might be able to drop in and offer some advice.I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit. -

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I will try emailing see if it forces some sort of update.
In the mean time I’ve added some photos as suggested. Everything seems to be communicating this end, gas data is just not getting beyond the home network.

You're welcome. I'll tag @retrotecchie and @theunknowntech again and perhaps they can give some advice based on your opening post and the photos you have posted. -
Please head into the menu for the IHD, into System Status and grab the Status Codes for both fuels for me. I've got a certain friend who knows what they all mean...Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

Everything looks ok to me. Worth checking that the meter serial number matches what is shown on the meter serial number for your online account. If that information is wrong, that may be why the gas readings are not showing up? I'm concerned that the data is showing up on your IHD which shows that the HAN is working correctly and so is the meter itself, but the Citizens Advice thing says your meter is not visible. This can sometimes be down to the meter serial number not correctly matching your account details.
The meter serial number should be BGMSL50540056 on your account.Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons. -

Thanks for the response, not sure if I’m in the right menu, when I go to system status I don’t see a code, just a schematic for connections, see image attached, selecting a fuel brings confirmation that theIHD is connected to that meter, image also attached.
Am I missing something? -
@retrotecchie
Thanks for the advice, you’re correct, the meter serial number on my account is E6S12193932061, this number is on the meter, by the bar code at the bottom. Is this not the serial number?Last edited by MarkQ; 23-10-23 at 17:36.
