It hellishly complicated and there seeems to be contradictory information...
I agree. My 2015 car is in Band A which remains free but I have again just read somewhere (Carbuyer or something) that Band A cars in this age group (March 2001-2017) will move to Band B in 2025. Band B is currently £20/year.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
@P962c (Everytime I write your username it reminds me of The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 - have you seen it?)
If not, there's a racoon in there that has been tested on and 'engineered' and his batch/ID number is 89P13...
My husband is in the Army and he's quite specialist in his role. He's recently done a course with the Fire Service College and the topic of EV's came up. They were saying that the batteries for EV's are so unstable, especially when people are buying secondhand ones. Did you see the cargo ship fire that happened yesterday? I was said to be carrying at least 25 EV's. My mind went straight to excess heat, unstable battery then resulting in the blaze.
The coastguard said the cause of the fire was unknown, but had earlier suggested it might have been an electric car. ....
Last year, a cargo ship carrying 4,000 luxury cars caught fire and sank off the Azores. Lithium-ion batteries in the cars caught fire on board the Felicity Ace.
The alternative technology to power vehicles is still relatively new - I'm assuming you're talking about hydrogen? As it develops further, the consumer costs of these alternatives, the stability of the batteries etc, the safety of the vehicles will also increase. Did you know there are loads of different types of capturing hydrogen?
I have not seen the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
I am probably going to give away an indication of my age now. My username is actually to do with a Porsche Le Mans winning racing car - Porsche 962c
I was thinking not only about hydrogen but also solid state batteries which do not use lithium. They are a lot smaller and lighter than Lithium Ion batteries and are stable. They are also a lot cheaper to produce. The charging times are a lot quicker. There are a number of companies developing these. I will see if I can
dig out some info and post it.
I did see the news on the fires. Tesla have experienced fires with their cars. It also happens with e-scooters

@P962c We're leasing an EV, hopefully it will be delivered in the next few weeks. The one we went for I have never seen and since the day we ordered it, I've seen them everywhere.
Need to look into having a charging point installed on the drive.
