Hi, can anyone advise on what the differences are on the smart meter data preferences.
Currently mine are set to monthly but I have read about people having them half hourly.
What does each option mean? Also I don’t have anywhere visible to put my IHD so I have unplugged it, my readings seem to update on the 18th of each month. I assume I don’t need the IHD plugged in.
@Dizzeedazza
If you set your data preferences to half-hourly then that’s how often readings will be taken. You will still only see monthly readings in your account which will produce a bill. I have mine at half-hourly so I can see detailed usage in the Bright App on my phone and also it makes me eligible to take part in the energy shift trial. You don’t need the IHD unless like me you like to have something visual to monitor your consumption hour by hour.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
It's just a meter read for billing purposes. They do not do any data analytics for you other than project your energy usage for the year. For that sort of data you would need to use something like the Hildebrand Bright App. That can analyse your usage, show you half hourly usage and track your historical data.

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
The IHD is not necessary for correct meter operation.
However, if you set your meter to half hourly and were using the IHD, you would have more of a granular view of your usage.
With half hourly data and opting in for marketing information, you may also be able to participate in the Demand Shift.
Your bills will still be produced monthly, and still only see monthly reads on your account or bills, but half hourly data is very useful to the National Grid for demand management.
Thanks both, so being on the monthly option means that Eon only receive the total usage at the end of the monthly cycle. Is this broken down by day or hour or just like a traditional manual meter read where they obtain the meter reading only with no data on how that is used each day.
Late to the party 🎉 I am afraid! @JoeSoap has beat me to it! But the difference between smart meter hourly preferences is simply when your meter will report data back to us 😊.
So if you have it set to monthly data then the meter will send our system your readings and data on a monthly schedule, whereas every half hourly - that data is sent every 30 mins. @retrotecchie is correct in that we require your meter to be set at a half hourly rate if you wish to take part in our Demand Flexibility Service 😊.
