I had smart meters installed a month ago. I have been using the eon smartview2 ihd, the ivie bud and the Bright apps. All started providing readings immediately and I have been monitoring closely since, particularly since the gas readings indicated excess gas use (and due to help from forum hoping to have that resolved this week).
Both the ivie app and Bright stopped showing any gas data from Monday. Reading through forums I appreciate that you sometimes have to wait and allow them to catch up. Interestingly the Bright app was previously showing data within 3 hours rather than the 24 often referred to.
What is slightly odd is that both IHDs are receiving the data. THe smartview IHD actually shows hourly data (which I think the Bud ihd doesnt) and it is all there and up to date. In devices menu the Bright app states last contact with the gas meter was 01:00 two days ago. Also both apps stopped displaying gas data at the same time two days ago.
This is not a major problem, and I appreciate I may just have to wait. It is unfortunate though because a heating engineer came today and found the HW diverter valve was receiving a constant live and suspects the controller is faulty and is returning tomorrow to see if this works or it is a wiring fault. So hourly data would be useful from the apps.
I think this is related to something called DCC which I do not fully understand. But if it were would the IHDs get the data?
Good news that a fault has been diagnosed along the lines that we suggested.
As to the app stuff don't ask me - on the topic of smart metering I'm a refusenik.
The DCC is the company which acts as a wholesaler/conduit between the supplier and your meters. They are not accessible by customers, only suppliers.
Data in the form of tariffs etc flows one way , in the other direction flows readings, if it all works -15% of smart meters were dumb in Sep 22 stats from government.
Your data goes from both meters to the comms hub and then onto DCC. In home displays get their data from the comms hub even if its not getting to the DCC or your supplier. If your IHD isn't getting gas info then there's an issue with meter to comms hub traffic.
A conventional IHD takes it's data directly from the meters themselves using Zigbee communications across the Home Area Network (HAN).
Any app from a third party relies on access to the Data Communications Company (DCC)
Often times, the two sets of information will not match in 'real time'.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
yes...all apps on your phone or tablet work via internet access to the servers. Unless you have some very specialist hardware (like me), no consumer devices have a secure Zigbee transceiver.
Bright have been in touch. They are incredibly helpful - I think I will post my experience of three different IHDs at some point. Different to what I was expecting.
They have identified that the gas proxy firmware on my comms hub is quite old (they can identify the version from their end). THey advise it is updated as older iterations stop reporting. Is there a smart meter technical team at EON where I can request this? I will google now, just in case anyone has the best contact.
There will be but access is via customer services. You know the drill by now!
