Man, you lot are making me feel young! I'm only in my twenties! XD
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...
Pete is an IHD Tariff Update Robot! 🤖 Anasa is a Giant Enemy Robot Spider 🕷 🤖 Hannah is neither! Need Customer service? click here! Replacement IHD Guide? Here it is!
Young enough to be under 30, but old enough to have grown up in the 1990's. I've watched technology change and unlike many who are just in their twenties now, I've seen the world go from the basic tech of the 90's to the explosion of today.
Well, Blastoise186 is even more high tech than me. He's got SMETS2 kit like me, but he's somehow managed to turbocharge his site. :)
His setup is a SMETS2 Aclara SGM1411-B, WNC SKU1 Comms Hub and TWO Chameleon IHD6-CAD-PPMID IHDs that he managed to get out of OVO somehow, despite only being eligible for one. He lives in a flat where Raichu (his name for his smart meter) is too far away from his flat for the Kecleon Brothers (his IHDs) to get a signal. But he still wants to have their CAD features work, so he's got crazy overpowered Wi-Fi. The UniFi U6-LR Wi-Fi Access Point in his flat always blows me away with how overpowered it is. It literally blasts almost the entire building!
So all he has to do to get both his Wi-Fi and Raichu in range at once is stand by the lift. :P
Yeah... He's absolutely bonkers. I keep asking him why he has four Wi-Fi Access Points for a one-bed flat. He just tells me that he wants perfect coverage. The guy is absolutely mad and that's why I work with him. XD
@JoeSoap lol! We usually had a black and white TV as the license was cheaper! when we had a colour (when we were a bit flush!) the youngest child had to be the remote control! Was saying to my 6 year old the other day when she was moaning about the adverts that adverts were also a luxury as you'd appreciate any TV you got before either the elec ran out or had to turn TV off to save elec! How times have changed in a short space of time really.. I was 18 when we had internet @theunknowntech when I started to work and could afford the 'luxury' of it!

Did you know that we're open 24/7? There are lots of ways to contact us over here!📣
There was an advert in the Exchange and Mart when colour TVs were in their infancy...' Turn your TV into a colour set for £5'. The unlucky punters were sent a small tin of paint 🤣
Well... My first internet connection was with Freeserve back in 2001 on a dial-up connection with no usage limits. It only cost my family about £7 a month back then and ran at 52kbps!
Within two years we'd upgraded to Freeserve Broadband at 512kbps and boy did literally EVERYTHING run like a rocket! We stuck with them during the transition to Wanadoo and then Orange and kept using them for over two decades. I moved out a few years ago and to this day, I still use EE having transitioned myself from Orange PAYG back in 2008 (I still remember all the Animal Packages for both PAYG and PAYM!) to where I am now on a contract with EE. My broadband costs £22 a month now though, thanks to hyper inflation.
Mind you, I'll be glad once all the key/card prepayment meters are gone! It'll be MUCH easier for me then because I won't have to keep track of as many different meter types to give advice on. I still don't know how Blastoise manages it... But then again he's got Confluence and Jira, while I don't.
But yeah... Coin meters are the worst because of how easy they are to jam.
