I'd love to average 12kWh a day, but we need to cook hot food occasionally. I'm a 'couple of crumpets in the toaster' kind of bloke, but herself does like her 'proper grub'.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
Last month Electricity was 6.68kWh/day average whereas a year ago (in the same house) 7.71kWh/day but this will climb a little over winter. Last November I was using 11.33kWh/day and am aiming for no higher than 8kWh/day. Big savers for me is very little Oven cooking, a Heat Pump tumble dryer which is frugal compared to the previous condensor and more use of the pressure cooker (electric). Gas similarly is tumbling with thermostat set at no higher than 17.5C (compared to maybe 19-20 last year) and flow temperature from the combi Gas boiler set at 50C. We now use a heated throw in the evenings or when SWMBO is watching TV.
You and me both. Whereas I do try to be as frugal as I can, the electric reclining chairs are a necessity for the other half, and a luxury I feel is justified for me, considering the rest of my 'hair shirt' lifestyle.
I can't control the unit prices, so i concentrate on the usage which is entirely under our control. If I've got that to the absolute minimum then I'm happy,
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

I'm on about 8 kWh per day for electric. But our new freezer is coming next week. The old one was using 16.8 kWh per week (874 kWh per annum) - 30% of our total consumption. I expect our new one to cut 25% off our bill.
The downside is that the new one costs £450 so it will take a couple of years to start paying for itself. If it lasts 34 years like the old one it will have done a good job.
I've made the point before that these price rises have probably done more for energy efficiency than all the hype about smart mering in the past 12 years.
I think my new fridge freezer saved me about 35 kWh per month. I totally agree with you about the effect of the higher prices and smart metering, all of a sudden people are starting to look at what they're using, including those with smart meters.
I have to agree with you there that price rises have possibly more impact than smart meters. We got a vertical freezer when we moved in here, to replace a very old second hand chest freezer. The saving in energy has been dramatic. The freezer is plugged in to a socket that has it's own energy meter on it. It used 71kWh for the whole of October, so much less than the old one which used about 140kWh a month. That was pre-April's price increases, so I am glad we invested in a new A+ rated one. The old one was old before energy ratings became commonplace.
Appliances that have a variable duty cycle like fridges and freezers are better measured over a period of time rather than trying to calculate instantaneous usage on a smart meter.
We needed a replacement anyway, so we didn't buy it just to save energy, but that is a pleasant reduction in consumption.
