There's one thing you'll never get again... a Smoker's Outfit. We used to get one in our stocking at Christmas. Chocolate cigar, cigarettes, matches, lighter, pipe and ashtray to teach us how to smoke properly later when we reached our teens 😂.

It never worked on me though 😇

Black Jacks and Fruit Salad...two for a penny, back in the day. Loads of retro sweets available online...but the prices haven't half gone up...rather like the gas and leccy!

I was four when decimalisation happened. Prior to that, I relied on parents, grandparents and aunts and uncles for my sweetie ration!

I wasn't financially independent (had pocket money and was allowed to the shops on my own) until about 1974.

When my mum went to the shops we used to ask for thruppence worth of rubbish. She knew what we meant and we’d get a bag of chocolate mice, black jacks, flying saucers with sherbet in them.

It’s amazing I’ve still got my teeth 😂

I remember those sweets too. My aunt and uncle owned an ice cream and sweet shop, so I used to get occasional free ice cream cornets. They kept their ice cream recipe secret and it disappeared when they retired. Such a pity because it was really delicious.

A couple of old friends of mine have opened an ice cream/gelato shop on The Wirral.

Too far for an afternoon out for me, unfortunately.

My nearest shop of any description is an eight mile round trip. That's a quid in diesel and twenty minutes on top of the price of a bag of Haribos!

At my ripe old age of 24… I don’t have much to contribute here 🤣! But it does sound like better days. Although near me there’s an old fashioned sweet shop that still have all the retro sweeties in a jar (@meldrewreborn black jacks and everything!!!).
