I'm Retrotecchie and I do exactly what it says on the tin. I'm a tecchie and a fan of all things retro. Like analogue meters, old fashioned customer service, and proper sweeties weighed out from a huge jar into a paper bag, for example.
Semi retired but still working hard to keep obsolete things working, customers happy and a roof over my head.
Owner of two Cocker Spaniels, three chickens and a stone-built 19th century hovel in Wales.
Not on mains gas, barely on mains electricity (seriously) and no mobile networks in range. A joyous existence.
Good morning @retrotecchie Anasa here 👋 it's lovely to have you here and to get to know you a little better! I remember those days with sweeties in the jar! the ones on the shelf were always the luxury ones and a lovely treat so you always felt very lucky if you had enough money for the jar sweeties! The penny sweets where always very popular and you felt like the luckiest person in the world to get 100 sweets for a £1!
It's sounds lovely where you are! @Beki_EONNext can relate to having chickens! they are a big part of the team! and all of us on Community team have either a couple of cats or a dog or two!
When I grew up in a small Hampshire village, we had a proper sweet shop with the shelves behind the counter loaded with jars. The lady who ran the shop was a friend of the family so when my brother and I went to spend our pocket money, I'm sure she'd give the jar an extra shake over and above the weighed out 'quarter'. Happy days indeed.
Now the 'pennies' have to go on a few kilos of chicken feed, ten kilos of dog food or a few drums of heating oil!
The priorities have rather changed since I was a kid lol.
Recently I’ve found that black jacks could be purchased from Poundland but then they disappeared again. A cricketing friend took pity on me and sourced a 1kg box. 🥲
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
