    <edit> BTW my older phone (which was also showing these symptoms) has miraculously now started logging in correctly, so something must have changed in the app background (not the app itself which hasn't been updated), fixing it for me </edit>

    Hmm - my last post has set me thinking about app logins/security and updates...

    • My old phone won't update the app automatically from PlayStore, so it is still running v1.12.6748 whilst my main phone is on .6832
    • However things have changed in the app's performance, which leads me to believe that changes can be implemented via the background API (is this Kraken?) which both the App and Website use, without having a physical app update
    1. The app always required me to login, and always forgot the fingerprint setting
    2. It also warned me the phone was potentially unsafe - did I want to continue? (this is because I've unlocked the Bootloader to install a more recent LineageOS operating system - No other apps do this, so there appears to be something built into EOn's security checks)
    3. However....
    4. It now remembers the login/biometric settings and allows me to use fingerprint login
    5. And no longer warns that the bootloader is unlocked <edit> actually just noticed it does still display, but the message quickly gets overlayed by another message warning that energy usage may not show correctly for next drive users</edit>
    6. so something has changed in the background security without updating the app itself
    • Another thing I noticed:
      • if you do log out completely, it doesn't use any login/autofill/password manager so you have to manually enter your email/password credentials and reset the biometrics again.
      • Having done that I guess it must keep you logged in when you exit, but you do need to re-validate biometrics to enter the app again
      • So I think the <use biometrics> isn't actually a setting that gets saved (to be available next time you log in). It's because you remain logged in whilst the app is closed that it just needs biometrics to reopen the app - this needs reinitialising on next full login.

    Well we have a nice fault now the app wouldn't show or open just blank screen so deleted it and reinstalled but still won't open don't know if anyone else has this at moment

    I’m just glad that I don’t use the app!

    I’m from a previous age that didn’t rely on modern technology at all and so I’m conditioned by my life experience. The way I look at things is that I’ll adopt them if they represent an improvement over what existed before and satisfy my own needs.

    I do find that the NHS app on my phone is a much simpler way of ordering my repeat prescription than another service from my GP on the PC, so I use it. But I don’t need many other apps, and while I might have them whether I use them is another matter entirely. But banking apps are a complete no-no.
    Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and think the smart meter programme is a waste of our money. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

    On my older phone (already logged in) it sits with a blank purple screen for several seconds (just checked, it's actually 6secs) where it must be checking credentials behind the scenes before giving me the fingerprint login.

    If I log out completely (and cleared data/cache plus force stop the app so it's at its as-new state) it has the same delay, then presents the login/accept biometics etc screens for a full manual login

    This time for a change it does seem to have jumped in with adding the login details to google password manager, but doesn't use it when you login again so you have to type the whole damn lot🤬

    @geoffers I’m just glad that I don’t use the app!
    It's actually only a very small number of users who get problems, but (as is the same with every forum) because people with problems are the only ones who post the feeling is that the app is problematic.

    I agree it shouldn't happen for this minority, and doesn't give the company a very good reputation... but they don't really care do they🙄

    I'm also from that same generation, but actually do embrace modern technology - I find it really frustrating when some of my contemporaries can't even learn how to use a TV remote 😂
