Do I need to give a meter reading for the upcoming Price Cap?

    Happy Friday folks 😊

Tomorrow is the official start of the new Price Cap and I'm sure meter readings are on everybody's mind 🧠. In short, the answer is yes if you do not have a working smart meter, but if your smart meter is working we will pull one automatically.

Those that have contacted us recently via Social Media will be aware that over the past few months we have introduced a bot that has given out vital advice to customers, pointed them in the correct direction and ensured that our Energy Specialists get the correct information from you. DES the bot has proven to be a quicker and more efficient way of chatting with usπŸ€–.

Yesterday we made some changes to DES, this includes the ability to give us a meter read without you even having to chat to us ⭐. When you click on the 'give us a meter read' button you will be sent to a screen whereby you can upload your account number & reading! We have enabled this function for ALL customers too - meaning that you do not have to have registered for an online account to access this!

There are some exceptions - for example you can't enter a meter read on there if you have a working smart meter but the customer will get a message explaining that and what to do next. Those that have a working smart meter will have a read pulled automatically from them 😊.

If you have any more questions, do let us know 😎

@Moomin17 no need to send us a reading for prepayment as you have already mentioned we get a reading when you top up 😊

Very good but have you answered the question posed in the headline?

I would say that the price changes are so small overall that few will be adversely affected by not giving a reading, but for peace of mind customers should record their readings in their online account, ideally tomorrow 1 April.
Current Eon Next and EDF customer, ex Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

Oh yes @meldrewreborn - thanks for pointing that out! I'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on backwards sometimes! I've rectified it ✨

What about readings for pre-payment (not a smart meter), when I go into my account, it tells me that you take a reading each time I top up. When it was Eon, there was a facility on the website to submit meter readings for pre-payment, as it is Eon Next, there is not that facility now. My email I have been sent states the reduction and the increase are based on estimates.
