I'm trying to clarify some things before deciding whether to switch to a smart meter.
I currently have a single phase dumb-meter. The service head is 3-phase, 100A (and has been used as such historically).
Questions:
1) Can the meter upgrade be to 3-phase ?
2) What makes/models are E.On installing ?
3) Does both the meter and billing operate on a net-metering basis ? (I.E: if the system is importing on P1, but exporting on P2, the metered usage is P1 minus P2) ?
4) Will an appropriate isolator (TP+N) be fitted at the same time ?
The best thing to do in this situation would be to get in touch with an energy specialist. We do install 3 phase meters however this is dependent on a few factors such as the current set up and even your location etc so they will go through your options with you. You can find our contact info in this thread: How to Contact E.ON Next
You say you currently have a 3 phase service head, do you currently have an isolator fitted? If you need an isolator switch fitted this would be a separate appointment as this needs to be installed we arrange your 3 phase install and before any panel boards are fitted.
The billing would be the same as you have now so all import would be charged on your monthly statement for all usage and then if you are exporting and you have SEG this would be paid seperatley in your annual SEG payments (assuming you had a SEG account with us)

Isolators are placed after the meter, so fitting one prior to switching the meter would serve no benefit to the installation itself. Adding one after can also be difficult where electricians will not work 'live', and so are forced to negotiate with the DNO to pull fuses and/or cut seals.
Hence why some providers are installing isolators as a part of meter swaps as it avoids the whole dog-and-pony show every time work outside a CU needs doing.
@cheradenine you are right, I don't know where my brain is at today! 🤯
This should be installed after we fit the meter however it should be done before the panel board is fitted. Let me update my thread so I don't cause any further confusion 🤗
Please pop back and let us know how you get on with this I would love to follow your journey!
