That would also help in not having to have 2 accounts (one for SEG and one for regular tariff) - just seems counter productive and an overhead for everyone. Conversely, and not trying to bash, but Octopus simply show what you have consumed and what you have exported, daily....so at any time you are genuinely knowing what your "balance" is.
Manual export reading

Can I simply ask, why is it, that having a SMETS2 meter (supplied by E.On), can the Export values not be read remotely and daily ? It just seems a little archaic to have to manually send those values in, with a photo, every quarter (or yearly).

Best Answer@shudman Hey, I hope all is well?
It's something the team are working on, as soon as this is available to be rolled out to all of our customers then of course we will let you know. Either way to set this up you would need to speak to the SEG Team directly as it's not something we would have access to on the Community.
Feel free to give them a call between the hours of 9-5 Monday to Friday and 4:30pm on Fridays. The number is 0808 501 5218
The SEG Team also works some of our FIT work and as the team are currently in a reading window, wait times may be longer getting through. I have seen some accounts with the ability for us to read export reads manually, however its not something anyone on the community would be able to add to the SEG account.
The SEG Teams work is heavily ring fenced and regulated which is why we have a specific team of people in place to work these types of accounts, we can of course answer any questions you have about your agreement etc, however any amendments to your account, you will need to speak to the team directly.
Let me know how you get on, if there's anything I can do once you have spoken to them, please to let me know.

Hi @shudman I hope all is well?
The SEG team request a photo of the export reading so that they can submit this correctly via a form and follow the correct process of getting your payment issued, We're working on polling reads remotely as we speak.
In regards to two accounts for the export account and energy account. The energy and export accounts are treated completely separately, with separate information and different processes we have to follow.

Do you know if there is any progress on the remote reads of Export ? I know it was only 3 weeks ago.....but you did say "as we speak" :)

I wasn't expecting someone in the community team to be able to remotely read meters 😀 My point really was that your competitors do this already and it was mentioned in the first post that it is something E.On are working on. I was simply enquiring how far this work had progressed !!

@shudman If the account was set up to be read remotely then we would 100% be able to read your export reads, within the Community Team
Setting it up for you is where you need to speak to the SEG team, I have seen accounts where it has been in place however this may have been testing.
The competitors you mentioned, may I ask what they pay for exported units? I'm just curious that's all. Give the SEG team a call tomorrow and they will be able to advise if we can set this up for you 😀Last edited by Lee_EONNext; 1 Week Ago at 09:06.

I think you are misinterpreting my "ask". "Remote read in the Community"....why would someone want to share their export readings automatically to the general masses ? 😉 Sorry, I am not trying to be confrontational.
Let me try to explain, as I know many others are in the same boat with SEG.
- I have a Next Drive Tarif and E.On read the meter to state how much electricity (consumption) I use ....it is done remotely, automatically whenever is required by E.On
- I have SEG account with E.On and *I* have to read the meter manually to send a photo with the Actual Export reading either once a year or 4 times a year if I desire.
For an E.On "reason", I have 2 separate accounts for the above.
I was asking WHETHER or WHY E.On cannot automatically read the SEG export remotely, as they can for reading the consumption usage. I mean....it is connecting to the same meter, with the same security protocols. The answer on here I got earlier was "yeah, we know we are working on it right now"...and that was what I was seeking any more info on. When will this happen ?
In the same ilk....why the heck is there two accounts ? Whilst I understand that it may seem clearer to E.On to have them separate, it is a bit poor for the customer to fork out, and then get repaid 3 months (or a year) later for the SEG.
The above is NOT how Octopus do it (they pay 15p per unit for SEG). I have never been an Octopus customer, but multiple friends are, who have solar/battery set ups. Their single account is super clear - what they have paid for/consumed, and then offset by their SEG....down to daily level, and in essence they are "billed" monthly. If they are lucky to feed in more than they consume (isn't that utopia ?), then they see a credit. No manual reading, no waiting, with clear and concise info.
Please don't bash me and say "well go to Octopus then", as that is unfair and I am more than happy with the tariffs from E.On - I am simply suggesting their could be a better and clearer way and it seems E.On are moving that way....just asking when (and if the Octopus approach is going to be utilized) -
@shudman I will elaborate on my comment as I can clearly see where I have confused the situation,
What I meant by within the Community, is the team, the masses would never have access to your account/meter.
I am advising you that 'Eon Next Maybe able to read your meter remotely' however this is something that within the community team, we're unable to set up for you, and you would need to call the SEG Team directly to discuss.
Maybe the caveat to everyone not having access to this feature at this stage is a SEG rate of 3-25p paid to you instead of a credit balance on your account, depending on eligibility.
Suggesting you move supplier isn't something we would ever advise and know one on the Community forum would ever bash you, the forum is a positive place and we try to keep it that way. Even when people are unhappy we try to help and turn those feelings around.
The SEG team, will run some tests etc to see if this is something we can offer you, hopefully we can, however its just something we're not able to guarantee.
Give them a call and they should be able to assist.
I hope this clarifies the situation for you, please do let me know if you need anything more
