Hi, my tariff comes to an end 1st April and I am going on the standard variable rate, what I'd like to know is will my monthly direct debit payment be for just the energy used in that period.

Yup, most likely it will be. But beware - you'll have no buffer to help with the winter costs so try to build up some credit in the summer by overpaying. It'll help you later in the year.

There are different price capped rates Depending whether customers are on prepayment, standard credit (pay by cheque) or Monthly Direct Debit terms. Setting up a direct debit means that you pay marginally cheaper rates for your consumption over a whole year, but in the summer months you pay more than what you've actually used and in the winter months less - so smoothing your outgoings. You are probably on a DD already I'd guess. You will need to get this changed for a new amount.

Be warned that rates from April 1 will be very much higher than your old fixed tariff - my bills are at least 2.5 times last years.
