I have been paying my quarterly/monthly bill via the Interweb for many years both with EON and then EON.next. About six months ago I had an issue paying which turned out to be EON.next not allowing payment via the VPN which I had purchased/installed on recommendation from one of my banks some years ago. Annoying particularly as I can manage Barclays and Amex accounts with the VPN in place. Then I had an issue because I was using WiFi. Yet again annoying. Now I cannot even seem to pay via a direct Interweb connection. This is a totally stupid situation! When are EON.next going to resolve this issue, or should I just look at using another supplier that doesn't have these issues?

paying as you do is circa 7% more expensive than direct debit. With this supplier you can pay with a variable or a fixed direct debit, the former being most like your current method.
I do not recall a similar issue before on the forum, perhaps the issue is not easily diagnosed without a lot more detail
One of our top contributors had problem accessing the main website this week eventually traced to a tik tok script. But if you change the way you pay you can save money and avoid these tech issues. A win-win .Current Eon Next and EDF customer, ex Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. As @WizzyWigg has said, you will need to contact customer service to get an answer to this one I think.
Have you considered paying by Direct Debit? Some don’t like the idea of building up a credit balance but you can choose to pay by Variable DD where they only take the bill amount every month. You would still pay what you do now but would benefit from the DD discount thus saving you around 7% year on average.
This can only be set-up by contacting customer service, which you will likely have to do in any case, so worth enquiring about at the same time.I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit. -

Level 7812-11-23@DrMichael For the forum could I just confirm that you are not in the UK? Do you have Smart Meters? If they are Smart then as my very learned colleagues said a VDD would be your best option.

Level 9112-11-23@WizzyWigg. I had not considered that @DrMichael might not be in the uk, but the use of a VPN might be a good clue.
So long as regular readings are submitted the use of either of the Direct Debit alternatives is OK, but more important for the variable DD perhaps. If readings are not available then the bills will be estimated. But that might be what is happening now, we don’t know. -

What made me think @DrMichael may not be in the UK was 1. VPN failure to connect 2. Wi-Fi failure to connect and 3. Direct Interweb failure to connect, (I'm assuming that meant Ethernet). As @retrotecchie told me once you use to be able to use Ethernet if Wi-Fi failed, but now looks like security is increasing.
