    Morning,

Just been invited to join the new EV smart tariff.

Anyone else already joined or in the process?

Seems just like Next Drive v6 but with the added benefit of cheap peak time charging as when it’s available.

    Morning @PhilTUK

    How are you?

So I can confirm that between the times of 00:00 - 07:00 the off peak rate will be for the whole property as well as charging the car. However in addition to these timings whenever the car is being smart charged (regardless of the time) the car charge will only be on the off peak rate.

I hope that helps with your query, please let me know if there is anything else you need. 😊

Looking at it. I agree, Next Drive plus "smart" charging.

My main question is - Is all power during smart charges metered at low rate (by smart meter), or only power taken by car (via car app).

    Hey @Wills170 @PhilTUK

    I hope you're both well?

Welcome to our Eon Next Community, I am Indy one of your Nexties here 😊

In regards to the Next Drive Smart charging our Next Connect app will automatically charge your car during times when electricity is cheapest. You simply set it when you need your car ready and what level of charge you want, this will automatically update.

You can find out more via our website Introducing Next Drive Smart

yes please, the question I asked above was whether all the electricity I consume while the car is smart charging is at the low rate, or only the electricity going into the car.

Example - Car charging under Next Drive Smart from 1400-1430 on a windy sunny day, I also have the oven on. Is the oven electricity charged at 25.3 or at 6.7 p/kWh in this time interval.

I can't see the answer to this on the site or in the T&Cs. I have filled in the application to join.

Interesting. How will that be achieved?
The best approximation would be to get the percentage charge increase in the slot, multiply by the nominal capacity and then add a charging loss factor. However, there’s going to be significant margins of error on all those values. I’d assume you’d legally have to err on the side of the customer to avoid overcharging, in which case just offering all the energy at the lower price will be simpler and probably what’ll end up happening anyway.

@rwh202 - looking at videos of how the competition does it: they connect directly to the car via the car's 3g/4g SIM (which is why they need to be compatible vehicles) using the relevant manufacturer's API.

So I'm guessing they therefore will have access to car's SOC; charging rate; schedule control etc and can schedule/monitor the charging process from the car during the daytime cheaper rate period(s)

The smart meter will tell them how much total power has been used for this period.

However they will know how much of this has been pulled by the EV, so presumably can split the cost between the cheap rate for the EV and the normal rate for the rest of the household

If the car API can provide all that with sufficient resolution and accuracy then yes it ought to be possible.
However, I believe you typically get SoC to nearest percent and an ability to start / stop charge.
Also, this isn’t talking to the car directly - the API is on the manufacturer’s servers which in turn polls the car or returns a cached response.

Ahh OK 👍 - sounds a bit like reading your meter (indirectly) via the glowmarkt API, but ultimately the supplier has the capability of communicating with the car itself.

The competition do seem to have a much larger list of compatible cars, so I guess it's a case of EOn gradually bringing other manufacturers on board.

    Good Afternoon,

Just had confirmation I’m now on the Next Smart V2 tariff, downloaded the tool kit and App, connected the car, done a test charge and all working well. Very simple process.

We have the myenergi Zappi charger, so have had to set the charger to “Fast” to override the current schedule within the charger which was set to charge the EV’s between 00:00-07:00, now the Next Connect App controls the charge I’m presuming between the standard 00:00-07:00 as well as other “off-peak” cheap rate within “peak” times when electricity is cheap and plentiful.

The only issue so far is having two EV’s, with my Tesla being supported, and the Honda eny:1 not being, I’m presuming when charging the Honda, I will have to go back into the Zappi App and return the charger to schedule to charge between 00:00 and 07:00 again? And vice versa when I can utilise the Next Connect App controls for the Tesla.
