Registered for this tariff nearly 2 weeks ago. Account is still showing Next Flex. I was told at the time that my existing smart meter was compatible, and it would be a simple changeover taking a couple of days. How long should this take to transfer?
@Doive
The time to transfer depends on whether you are already an Eon Next client or coming from another supplier. It's worth have a look at the following link under Terms for our Next Drive tariff (from 4 December 2024).
This is just part of the T&Cs:
4.1 As part of switching to this tariff, If you’re switching to us from another supplier we must run test-reads of your smart meter for up to 15 days.
4.5 If you are already an E.ON Next Customer, we must run test-reads of your smart meter for up to 5 days and you will remain on your existing tariff during this period.
It would be interesting and helpful to others to explain the financial aspects of your set up more fully. We can all grasp that electricity supplied at night is cheaper, and by charging your batteries you can then use that power during the day. The question is I suppose what did the batteries cost (or would cost now), what battery capacity you needed, and what is your expected payback period - when do you expect break even? A battery system charged at night would work all the year round, but solar delivers primarily just in the summer months.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and think the smart meter programme is a waste of our money. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Battery installation now is £5800, was £6500 when I had them installed. 12 year manufacturer warranty. I have a battery capacity of 14.4Kw, which does us most days. Our electricity usage was around 4600kwh a year before we had it all installed. With this V6, it is costing on average £1.30 a day, so £474 a year. As against £1196 per year. As to payback period. The biggest problem deciding payback period is the unknown. When we got the solar and batteries installed, I was paying 47p/kwh, which would have been costing me around £2162 a year. Yes, prices have fallen but I still reckon 8 years payback at current pricing levels - I think prices will only go on up. tbh, the solar is more of a minefield.
Like you say and you are 100% correct, solar must be thought of as a summer months generator. Ok, March through to October mainly. Many days in Dec/Jan/Feb we didn't produce anything! Sometimes I wish I had just gone for a larger battery only setup - export the excess. Yes, prices are falling but I am pretty immune to any daytime electricity increase.

Thanks WizzyWigg, I spoke to an advisor on the phone who said something similar. My smart meter was installed some years ago by another supplier and never seemed to work for them, in terms of recording and communicating meter values. I've tried to confirm with E.ON that they were able to interrogate the meter as required, which so far is not clear to be the case. I'll give it another week or so and try to confirm again.
I'm not an EV owner myself but I do understand that a fully functioning smart meter is essential. Without it ToU tariffs are a no go. Let's hope Eon Next can get you up and running 🤞.

Unfortunately it appears from posts on here that EOn C.S. don't seem to be very good at following up queries, so you could have a long wait for a reply ☹️
You can check whether your smart meters are working in "Smart" mode by following this Citizens Advice link, then chase C.S again when you know the results https://smartmetercheck.citizensadvice.org.uk/
If they're working, download the Bright app; register your meters with the app then you can view your ½ hourly readings directly from the meter itself 👍
the downloaded data will have left the home travelled via the DCC been recorded by Glowmarket, before it was available for download. It would though be actual information from the meter.
No need to be a pendant @meldrewreborn - we all know the route it travels to get there, but for the OP's information the Bright meter readings come directly from the meter (via the DCC) rather than from EOn itself
