My son joined E.on Next when he moved into his flat. E.on Next put him on the Next Fixed 12m v32 tariff as he's got an Economy 7 smart meter.
Unfortunately, the flat is all electric and has an electric boiler. Not being familiar with these, we set up the heating/hot water timers to be during the day, etc. This resulted in extremely high bills (£500+/month). Now they're sitting in the cold and too scared to put the boiler on!
The boilers storage isn't that great and would need boosting during the day to keep the water hot. We then saw the Next Pumped tariff that, on the website, says it can be used for anyone who has a 'heat pump or an electric boiler'. When my son applied for this tariff, he was refused for policy reasons, even though he ticked all the eligibility requirements.
Has anyone else had the same refusal as my son, or have actually been given the Pumped tariff when using an electric boiler?
Such a shame, as it means our only option is changing to someone like Octopus.
Your son may have an immersion heater rather than an electric boiler, which may explain the tariff refusal.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
The description of the boiler on their website is 'Electric Hot Water & Heating Boiler' so assuming it's an electric boiler. The radiators are water filled and the hot water is stored in a 130 litre tank.
The tariff should have been granted in my unbiased opinion.. I'd make a complaint if the tariff is really beneficial.
But I think I'd never ever have one of those in my property. Its far too complicated, and less cost effective than using E7 storage radiators and a storage tank heated at night. Its a solution to a problem that they've had to invent.
@SteveGSXR600K1 Hi Steve, there are other requirements that attribute to being eligible for the tariff, obviously it not being your account it would be difficult to comment. If you can pop me the account details via a DM I will take a look and if I can do anything I will reach out to your son.
Have a heat pump or an electric boiler in your home or be planning to have one installed.
