Ofgem put out a video today around the Radio Teleswitch.
What's happening in 112 working days - from 20th Jan 2025 🧐
In 112 working days the RTS system is being switched off.
What does this mean? 🤔If we do not exchange the RTS meters by the switch off date, 67k customers could potentially go off supply and lose their heating and hot water.
What is new? 😁Ofgem has created an advert, which will be going live today. This explains all about the RTS.
We're expecting increased customer demand around this.
The BBC have shared some information on RTS on the news and also all over social media. Again we may see demand off the back of this.
Dont forgot if you would like any more information we do have our experts also on the Community Radio Tele switch - switch off

The solution to this is always the fitting of a smart electric meter, hopefully a 5 terminal one. But if you live in a dead zone where connectivity is poor or non existent, will customers still be able to have a 2 tier tariff? I posed this question last week in the sticky thread but haven't yet had an answer.

Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
@meldrewreborn I'm sure if this situation was to arise we would do everything we could as a supplier to change that meter, we wouldn't leave someone or put someone in a position where they were off supply.
Apologies none of us have replied to that question
Great question though, leave it with me and I will check in with the meter guys and try to get you a factual answer.
@meldrewreborn Ive had a response from the RTS Lead, now this is RTS only.
'Our engineers will attend the site and take out the RTS meter and leave the customer with a fully working meter' Checks would be carried out and then the job would be assessed, however that customer would have a fully functioning meter as stated.
that sounds like a reply from a politician. The meter itself would be capable of storing 30 minute information, but if that cannot reach the supplier can it be read by the customer to provide rate 1 and rate 2 information?
and would the meter keep accurate time, even after power cuts?
Hey @meldrewreborn this is the most information we can give you regarding this and this is coming from our experts who are also on the Community as you know and have been as open and transparent as we can regarding the switch off - it might not be something everyone is on board with but it is out of our hands and we're trying to keep you all in the loop as much as possible 😊

It may be the most information you can give (orders from on high?) but not the full information available - we'll have to make up our own minds on that.
The question I asked was
"But if you live in a dead zone where connectivity is poor or non existent, will customers still be able to have a 2 tier tariff?"
So I was expecting a "yes" or "no" answer. Anything less than a straightforward "yes" will be regarded with some suspicion.
And you must already have customers who have moved from a traditional meter to a smart meter requiring a two register meter to deliver E7 or E10. So forgive me if the answers given so far are regarded as evasive and lacking transparency.
So what options are Eon Next Going to offer, and when? If customers cannot be reassured that the E7 (or similar) tariff cannot be replicated after switch off in all cases, there will be a huge clamour for the RTS switch off to be postponed, yet again. And suppliers have had a very long time to plan for this, so there is little excuse for not having this already sorted.

Unless I'm missing something, isn't the suggestion in the third paragraph from MSE just a smart meter in dumb mode? For obvious reasons I can see why everyone is reluctant to say what they are actually going to do if this is the case.
I have a Smets2 meter on E7 with two rates, it switches between rates irrespective of mobile signal, as it does for all those with dumb Smets1 meters.
