Just signed up for Bright and they are collecting my data from the smart meter as I type.....
Anyone built and Excel spreadsheet to do fancy data stuff from the Bright data or does the app do all that for you?
Yep - can produce accurately calculated costs in a matter of seconds running 2 macros. These are run per month to compare to the billed costs, and so far match pretty much exactly 👍
(You first need to download the meter data from glowmarkt.com in CSV format to enter into your spreadsheet)
Macro 1 applies BST offset (if necessary) and creates a pivot table of date vs time usage (thanks @meldrewreborn 😁)
Macro 2 formats the pivot table into cheap/normal usage hours & computes the costings
i had smart meters installed in december2024.
I commented to @geoffers that the downloaded data looked ripe for manipulating in excel pivot tables. I spent a couple of hours using text to columns to get data in the format I wanted, and then put the reconfigured data into a pivot table.
You’ll see from the links above that pivot tables, already part of excel, provide a sound way of analysing the data. How far you want to go is up to you.
i’m thinking of arranging my gas timings to have distinct times for water heating so I can distinguish between heating and water costs, partly because it’s not been possible to identify the latter - I’ve a thermal solar panel to heat my water in the Sumer months and I’ve never been able to say what it saves me!
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Blimey.......LibreOffice....now that is a blast from the past.......long, long time since I heard that mentioned..... :-)
I haven't used Excel since I was a wage slave back in 2012. I still have a copy somewhere, probably on my old Celeron 333 laptop running Windows XP😁
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
Thanks guys.
Much appreciated. Will go and have a play around on my Win95 AMD desktop....... :-)
If it's any help, I have attached my macro code in file eonPivotTable_bas.doc. I had to rename it to get over file restrictions --- rename it to eonPivotTable.bas and import into your "Personal Macro Workbook"
Its written to work for a month's worth of readings, so before loading the CSV into excel I open in a text editor and edit to keep just the dates I want to calculate for (leaving the epochTimestamp;kwh;dateTime headers in row 1. Also remember to keep the previous day's 23:00 & 23:30 readings if the start date is in BST, as they will become the 00:00 & 00:30 readings for that day)
Hopefully it'll work for you : If you need any help/advice just DM me a message 👍
