I am currently looking at fixing my tariff before the price cap raise, I am currently on the variable standard tariff. I currently get a reminder to read my meter on the 2nd of each month, with one due this week, I then pay the bill within 7 days. If I switch my tariff today, which will start from tomorrow, do I still give my reading and then pay that bill, and then pay the new fixed amount on the usual date of the following month? Or will I have to pay the new fixed amount on top of my bill, for the first payment this month. I don't want to change and then pay the 2 amounts together, or have to pay the new fixed amount straight after,.and not have a month in between. Sorry for the long winded message,.and thanks for any help.

Best AnswerHi @MattM1972
You are correct in your first assumption, you will only pay one monthly bill. The same would apply if you changed tariffs halfway through a month, your bill would show the first half of the month at the old tariff rates and the remainder on the new tariff rates. -
@MattM1972 Hi 👋
@Andy65 has posted the correct answer, just to clarify you would only receive one bill a month. What will happen if you switch between a billing window is on your bill you will have two parts on the billing page. It will have something like lets say you get billed on the 16th of each month and you switch today.
Essentially you will only get one bill, just be aware whenever you enter a read our system will bill you, so if you do enter a read you might get billed. Have you decided on what tariff you're going on yet?

@Lee_EONNext Hi Lee thanks for the reply. Should I give a meter reading today, before I fix my tariff? ( I know which one I'm taking) Or should I just change tariffs,and give my meter reading I'm a few days as normal? With the price cap changing from tomorrow I'm worried that the fixed deal will no longer be available after today. Thanks in advance.

@MattM1972 I would fix asap, I've seen tariffs disappear within seconds. In terms of adding reads, alot of people will add a read due to the price cap, this allows an accurate bill.
Essentially here, there is no wrong answer. If you want an accurate bill during the switch then yes add the reads. I would fix asap as once the tariff is removed, it would no longer be available for us to amend for you.
This is of course if you want to fix, it's your decision to fix or not. If I was fixing, I would change the tariff, then enter a read and away we go. The bill might look strange but when you get it, let me know and I will explain everything if you need me too
