Well said! I was in a very similar situation with my late mum. I could manage to cope with power cuts, but they were rather more than an inconvenience for my mum.
Yes the costs are passed onto the consumer, but the consumer always picks up the costs in the end, although the route varies.
Supply of energy and other utilities is akin to a human right nowadays (subject to payment) and I think most would see that as fair.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

I agree totally if it's due to gross negligence by the supplier, but don't see why the business should be expected to pay for something like extreme natural events which are totally out of their control.
That's something for our taxes to pay for via government/social security/disaster-funds(?) etc surely (I didn't actually read @retrotecchie 's original post (TL;DR) - so maybe this is what he actually said re: compensation 🙃)
I think it’s wrong that the warm homes discount is paid for from our standing charges rather than than the social budget, just as I think that making developers built a certain proportion of social housing merely forces up the price of new builds - the developers don’t pay do they its customers that always end up paying, don’t you see?
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
It was a Category 2. Anyone off for under 48 hours (I was 37) won't get owt. There are still a few people near here who have been off since Saturday 3am and are still off!
National Grid has put them up in a local hotel, given them £250 of Tesco vouchers, and the engineers are still trying to knit cables right now!
So long as I get a day and a half knocked off my standing charges, I'll be happy enough. The freezers all survived although I had to throw about £20 of fridge stuff away.

They must surely! A bit of a bummer on the fridge front. The important thing is you're all safe.
Morning @retrotecchie , as far as I know it's your DNO that you need to get in touch with to arrange payment we don't deal with the comp side of things here 🤔 this is the ofgem guidance: Compensation for energy supply issues 😊 Let me know how you get on!
