I will identify whether economy 7 would benefit me. For that I will need to know how much energy is used in the peak and off peak periods, and then do some calculations. I applaud your diligence in your record keeping and predicting your VDD amount but I don’t think I’ll follow your example. I’d want to see some tangible benefit from all that effort and currently I can’t visualise what that would be.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
The Budget function seems pointless to me, particularly for gas as you'd have change the Budget every month through the Autumn/Winter/Spring based upon what you think the weather might be like each month. The same would apply to anyone that uses electric for heating/EV charging and those that pay by variable DD.
What I have found the IHD useful for though is for taking meter readings, although as I'm on E7 it only shows the total meter reading so I still have to go into the garage to get either the Day or Night.
Do you have gas? Can you get a volume gas reading on your IHD?
Its disappointing that the gas is in kWh form, which i know to be inaccurate. I'll work out an adjustment factor later to correct to cu metres.
But I put the data (after using text to columns and using a start time rather than end time to get the last 30 minute consumption against the correct day) into a pivot table and quickly got this:
Yes I have gas. You can get the meter reading in m3 (to 3 decimal places) on your IHD.
If you have the Chameleon, press OK then right arrow to Meter Information then OK, pressing the Fuel button switches the meter reading between gas and electric.
2 things - is your new boiler delivering reduced gas consumption. I really hope so!
Secondly does your IHD show gas consumed by volume - I'm not sure that mine can!
For Dec, so far the ambient outside temperatures outside have been all over the place and 'solar gain' has been negligible. Internal temperatures of the house have been been set a tad higher compared to the last 2 years so lounge is set @ 19C (compared to 18/18.5C last year) so def feels warmer. So after 10 days of Dec I am using the same kWh of gas as I did last year. As my boiler modulates ((using load compensation) much better than the last one I had, the internal temperatures are much more in line with the thermostat (so no overshooting going on). So seemingly maybe a little less kWh for more consistent temperatures in the room where the thermostat is placed and less of the thermostat fiddling going on. I'd need to see what happens over a much longer period but the house feels more comfortable with less variation in temperature.
I see the actual m3 gas read on the IHD at the moment in time that the IHD is actually read but not the m3 daily/monthly advance as it were. The IHD just approximates (using CV of 40 I guess) what has been used daily in kWh up to the point it is read but gives an accurate figure of kWh each day/month/year.

Well - blow me: you actually can teach an old dog new tricks ... I'd heard of (but never used) pivot tables.
Thanks for the passing on the idea/method: here's mine 😁
And to think I spent all those hours writing a VBA macro to produce the same results 😏
Really, I’m only interested in the amounts of energy consumed, so kWh, although the gas is about 9% out according to some mental calculations. I will tie that down so I can work in cu metres, as my historical records are in volume terms.
as I am only a single tariff consumer I’m not that affected by the clock changes, and of course I don’t have data from a relevant period yet. I think I’d prepare a lookup table with the relevant dates & times (only 2 a year after all) and then test for that, returning the alternative information. Or I might not bother. There are others who’ve tackled the issue in various ways according to my search engine.
I’m still thinking about improving my soduku solving model which gets stuck on the toughest puzzles, but at least gets far enough to point me in the right direction!
