After a power outage this week, I checked my meter today, and the screen is blank. I contacted EON and was told I would have to wait until my credit ran out before it is an emergency..... How can this be.... I have no idea how much credit is on the meter.
As I work all day until late if the power goes off, then I will be unaware of this until I arrive home. In that time my freezer will defrost, plus I have a very large fish tank which works of a pump abd filter.
Why do I have to wait?
This is causing me anxiety.
Do you top up your meter with a key/card?
When a prepayment meter goes blank it will usually switch to safety mode which means you won't go off supply. Did the colleague you spoke to discuss arranging an appointment to get the meter exchanged?

Hi Poppy... the lady I spoke to didn't mention anything about a meter exchange, or that it would go into safety mode. I was only told that i would have to ring the energency number to report that the electricity had powered off once my credit had run out.
@JACQSBAK hey welcome to the community π I'm Deb one of the senior coordinators on the forum.
It should stay in this mode until an engineer can get out and get it fixed for you if this hasn't been arranged then you should get in touch with our energy specialists who will be able to book an appointment for you. You will be billed for any usage that is over your credit once your meter is fixed. I would always recommend keeping whatever you would usually use to top up aside to help budget with this so you don't find yourself with an unexpected bill π
As the lovely @Poppy_EONNext mentioned after a power cut it's not unusual for your meter to stay in safety mode it just makes sure that you aren't left without power. If for any reason however you do somehow go off supply get in touch with an energy specialist straight away and we can arrange an emergency engineer π

Thanks very much for the information provided, it has certainly put my mind at ease.
It would be beneficial to customers if when calling EON, Customer Service personnel passed on this information. Being told you have to wait until your power cuts off is very stressful and causes anxiety.
Thank you again for your quick response to my situation. I will be calling Eon first thing on Monday morning.
