Very frustrating call today to establish when and how the RTS meter will be replaced. Despite several months of emails and calls, often with contradictory information I am no nearer to getting the RTS meter replaced with a useable alternative.
Hey @Johnn635 I did reply to you back in Feb further down this thread I'm not sure if you seen this? I just wondered if you managed to arrange an appointment for an engineer to come out? Without our engineers coming out to see the set up we wouldn't be able to determine what needs to be done to get you changed over.
If you haven't already I would suggest getting this done ASAP once we have the information back from the engineer we will be able to come up with a plan of action on what needs to be done 😊

Yes, I did arrange for an engineer to visit but despite verbally agreeing what would be done, the engineer that arrived was apparently not party to the discussion so went away.
This mornings call was, I think, to the metering section , not the RTS Team. I would be happy for an engineer to visit and assess rather situation. I have provided a lot of information but understand if you require a survey. Actually, I was told that a survey was going to take place on March 28th and my call this morning was to get the results of this. The agent seemed oblivious to all this and informed me it would cost to get the meter changed. At this point I expressed my severe dissatisfaction and hung up.
somerimes it’s beneficial to do all this by email so you have a record of what had been agreed. I suspect that the engineer just gets job to do, without the background information. If so the fault clearly lies with Eon Next
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and think the smart meter programme is a waste of our money. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
There is an aspect which seems to be relevant but overlooked. Up until 2017 in my postcode there was 2G coverage but was discontinued in favour of 4G. The rollout of 4G smart meters is not scheduled until July 2025, after the RTS switchoff. I expect that with a suitable 4G system and antenna a smart meter will work but the timings prevent this.
I still wonder why it had not occurred that replacing a system using a long wave transmitter with very wide coverage with one that relies upon thousands of short range transmitters was not a great idea.
There is a rumour that the new Vodafone operated DCC system using 4G will utilise the longer range LTE NB-iot option to address this issue. Anyone party to information about this?

I think they are doing a trial roll out of 4g hubs from Dec 2024 so you may be lucky to become an early adopter
@meldrewreborn claims to have had a 4g hub fitted
that is what the engineers told me. The model though has been available for some time. Who would have thought that falsehoods abound. I’m in the camp that knows that 2g for smart metering is different to 2g for mobiles, and telephonica /O2 has a contract to provide the service through 2033.
clearly dead spots exist in the mobile coverage and there has been insufficient attention to solving the issue across all parties. Especially as the knee jerk solution of replacement costs us dear, when the underlying issue has not been addressed and is likely to remain.
