@Prettyeyez I’m very sorry for any uncertainty around the eligibility criteria this year, I have raised all the feedback in this thread in regards to eligibility and I am currently looking into this further to see if there is any further guidance I can provide. Did you hear back from our energy specialists?

@rosesarered If eligible, the discount should be applied by 31 March 2025. You can find out more via our thread E.ON Next Warm Home Discount 2024/2025. 😊

You can also check your eligibility for the warm home discount via the gov website here Eligibility Checker

@ThomasK this is why I came onto the forum see if anyone could shed any light . The first I heard was a lady who had just had £3200 debt wiped and got £250 on her meter . So I was looking for the eligibility criteria and it’s so vague so I messaged eon next who gave me the link to what we can all see stating “ have identified eligible customers “ so I’m wondering if it’s just for people that don’t pay their bills ? Which hardly seems fair . I’m on prepay so don’t have the choice to rack up a debt but I use my credit card mainly and in thousands of debt . Like majority of people on a low income it’s a choice between food or warmth . I try and stay in one room with my blanket hoodie and fleece and switch off most of the radiators but obviously it’s not ideal . So if anyone has been eligible and received contact from eon could you let us know what the criteria seems to be ? Thankyou

@HelenaP_EONNext this has clearly not been fed down to all staff as I have just enquired as to whether or not I will be eligible this year as I was last year and my circumstances have not changed to be given the number for the government warm home discount helpline. I was eligible last year and not contacted so I am concerned that information is not being communicated clearly.

You are entirely correct - the eligibility criteria for the Eon Next winter support scheme are deliberately opaque., partly because only just over 1% of customers will get some extra help. Its been suggested that the first step is to be eligible for help under the warm home discount scheme which gives £150 to eligible households. That scheme though covers many many more people , so getting it can only the first step, but it does mean that suppliers have access to a lot of information.

Like you I've wondered how prepayment customers fare in the selection process, but we're all in the dark.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

hi I spoke to the team and they said that it’s to do with priority list which I am on ! But I’m not flagged up for getting help . I’m disabled on low income benefits . I’m prepayment . She said there are prepayment customers who are getting it and it’s not just for people who are hugely in debt . So I asked is it more for people who need more electricity for illness like oxygen etc . She said yeah . But she said it’s still being rolled out so wait and see 🤷🏻‍♀️ so still no wiser I’m afraid . She said the criteria is different to last years winter support tariff which I was entitled to . So yeah still quite vague . Maybe they don’t actually know but just know that some accounts are “flagged” for getting it .

My apologies Nicola. Regarding the winter support scheme, eligible customers have already been identified and will be contacted directly, if you are eligible you will have already received either a letter, email or text stating this. If you haven’t received any of the above then unfortunately you will not be eligible for this year's scheme. If you were eligible last year it doesn’t necessarily mean you will automatically be eligible for future schemes. The criteria for eligibility has not been made available as this has been done privately based on the current information we have and it is not something you can apply for to be made eligible. There is a fixed amount of funds available to the scheme and this has already been allocated to the selected customers. We are trying to help as many customers as possible and the support has been offered to customers who (based on the data that we have available to us) meet the criteria. It is very important to capture and update the details on your account (Priority service register, Contact Details, DOB) so that when we explore more eligible customers, this information will support our decision making on future eligible accounts. Are there any details you would like us to update or check on the account? You can also view the page below to view further support information we are currently offering if you are struggling with payments.https://www.eonnext.com/policies/struggling-to-pay (https://www.eonnext.com/policies/struggling-to-pay)

Hi @Nicola2789, welcome to the community! 🙂

In regards to eligibility, were you previously eligible for the Warm Home Discount or Winter Support Scheme? 🤔

With the Winter Support Scheme customers who are eligible have been identified and will be contacted. Most eligible customers' accounts will be noted to indicate they are eligible and customers would need to await contact.

With the Warm Home Discount, if eligible, this should be applied automatically/the government will contact you directly over the winter of 2024/25 depending where you fall within the groups. If in the Scotland Broader Group you would need to apply online.

You can check eligibility for the Warm Home Discount via the government website.

Hi last year I was eligible for both. This year I have had the warm home discount but haven’t heard anything regarding the winter support scheme however last year I was eligible but was not contacted I happened upon the information by chance. I feel this is possibly done on purpose so that customers are unable to access the support

By not stating what the eligibility criteria are, customers are obliged to accept that Eon Next has made the correct choices in making their decisions.

The question then arises whether customers trust that Eon next (or any other company for that matter) has enough correct information on its customers to make those decision.

Going back 2 years the Warm home Discount was available to people who met the criteria and applied for it. Research by the Government found that many who were eligible didn't apply for it. That's why from last year the process was changed along with the eligibility criteria so that household were selected on the basis of known information - no application was needed and so many customers got the discount without the need to apply.

Eon Next will not want to enter into lengthy discussions over why people didn't get help under the savings scheme, so that's another reason not to publish its criteria. I think we have to accept that help to some is better than no help at all, even if the scheme is imperfect.
