Our IHD (Chameleon Technology (UK) Ltd 2020) has stopped displaying historic data for gas for the last two weeks or so. Electricity data is fine. Meters are SMETS2 installed in 2020.
At each days end, the gas usage figure (in £s) can be read, but in the morning it only displays £0.29, the standing charge.
Data is being received as shown on the E.On and Bright apps and billing appears to be sufficiently accurate. Gas usage is registering on the meter.
The meters appear to be communicating, with the applicable green LEDs flashing approximately every five seconds. The IHD has been de/repowered twice but no change to the readings.
I understand the IHD is merely a repeater/convenient device to save us going to the great outdoors to read the meter itself.
Thus, my question is where is the historic data held?
Before we order a replacement IHD (Ivie Bud seems to be the best replacement), we would like to know if the IHD or the meter hold historic data. Action can then be taken, dependent on potential faults.
It's not great to hear you have been experiencing issues with your IHD unit and over time they do become a little frail. The historic data is not always stored if the unit itself has lost communication with the smart meters.
Have you tried a reset? Maybe give the below a quick try. 😊
Step 1 - Check power is on. Step 2 -
For a Chameleon IHD, Hold the on/off button to turn the power off and let go when the screen says Goodbye or goes blank.
For a Smart View IHD, jump to step 3 as Smart View cannot be switched off.
Step 3 - Unplug the IHD and stand in front of the Electricity smart meter. (do not plug it in as the battery lasts several hours)
For the Chameleon IHD, hold the on/off button on the back but let go as soon as you see the screen coming back to life.
For the Smart View hold the OK button and then select “Reset”.
Step 4 - Wait until it looks like it’s fully reset or leave the IHD by the meter for up to 10 minutes. Step 5- You can then return the IHD to where you had it and plug it in. (the Bluetooth type signal can reach up to 10 meters but thick walls reduce the distance)
Let us know how you get on 💜

Got a question about the launch of our Everyday Tracker - why not check out 👉 Everyday Tracker FAQs👈
I have run through the suggested steps above. Still no gas historic data available.
Maybe I should have been more explicit about the de/repower of the IHD.
It has been unplugged and allowed to run flat twice, plugged back in and recharged twice. It has been placed within a foot of the meter, restarted in that location three times in one day. Still it does not register historic data. It was specified to be a Chameleon model.
It appears to function normally in every other aspect, just not historic gas data.
Is it possible to get the answer as to where the historic data is stored please?
@AJC052
From your description it sounds like your gas meter is communicating correctly to your IHD (via the comms hub) since it appears to be picking up and displaying the standing charge and daily usage every day.
As you commented in your first post the IHD is just a repeater for the information stored on your meter. Have you checked the values on the meter to see if they're actually being recorded?
On mine I can see the daily standing charge; volume per bill; cost per bill etc so presumably these are the values which would be passed to the IHD
I've never bothered checking to see whether these are values displayed on my IHD, but if they're not showing on your meter presumably it's the meter itself at fault, not the comms between the meter and the IHD
@geoffers
Thanks! My gas meter shows volume consumed in total and 'credit balance' (which I assume is the cost thus far into billing cycle). I have tried cycling buttons A and B several times in many combinations but only get these two values. The IHD shows historical data as GBP (prefer it when only GBPennies!!). The gas usage has been monitored over the last couple of weeks and is progressing as expected.
DMs from EOn point toward the IHD not retaining historic data although all other functions are as normal.
I am still waiting a follow-up to one query but my first thought of IHD slowly failing looks more applicable.
The IHD does not 'store' any historical data. That is a function of the meter. Some IHD's can interrogate the meter, but don't usually store the data itself.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

Precisely 👍. The link above gives a brief outline to what's involved.
