So for this report NESO use a 5% or less of CCGT generation (i.e use of gas power stations) would meet their definition of Clean Power by 2030. So Zero could actually mean 5% 🤣 once this is made clear to the masses.
The * at the bottom states this and then goes onto to state 'Government will set out how it is defining Clean Power 2030 in due course' Oh well just have to wait and see until 2029 🤣
Meanwhile another poor day (in another poor week) for renewables.
So a carbon free grid in the strictest sense has to be a non-starter for 2030 and even a 5% grid will be pushing it IMHO (even for 2035 let alone 2030). 🤔
With the Government defining the rules we can be sure they'll meet the target - in their own mind which nobody else will accept. Reminds me of the Emporers new clothes story.
@meldrewreborn - are you sure you're correct with this thread title?
I may be wrong, but looking at government websites etc it looks like the net zero target is 2050, with the target of reducing carbon emissions by 45% by 2030.
From the key messages #1 "A huge challenge but clean by 2030". and the same from @Mailman "A clean power plan for GB by 2030". That's the Government's self imposed target! Whether we've still got a viable economy though is somewhat doubtful.

Also the statement "reducing carbon emissions by 45% by 2030." Is irrelevant unless you define 45% of what..
This appears to be the accepted definition
...reducing carbon emissions by 45% of 2010 levels by 2030, and reaching net zero around 2050.
quite correct this is only the electricity grid, thank you for pointing this out😇
EDIT I tried to amend the title, and the tool seemingly allowed the edit, but only applied the words in the thread but ignored the amendment to the title.
