Hi all,
this afternoon I received a very disturbing email from a company named Phillips & Cohen Associates, the email basically says that I am dead and that my estate owes them nearly £700.
At first I thought it was a scam but after some research they are a legitimate debt collection agency. The only account I’ve ever had with eon was when I was living at my late father’s house for a few months in 2022 before the property was sold, I left the property on the 1st of November 2022, gave meter readings, paid the final bill and had the account closed. I am 100% certain that I don’t owe a single penny (I’m also pretty sure that I’m still alive!) the only real concern I have is that I can’t prove anything as I never kept any letters etc.
Any help or encouragement would be greatly appreciated

Might be worth contacting customer service by any means listed under Contact Us in the purple box at the bottom of this page to put it to them and find out exactly the account number and name this debt applies to and for what dates.
If this is the first you have heard of it and the bill is for over a year ago then back-billing rules may apply. @meldrewreborn is best placed to advise on this.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
Perhaps you’d like to send a DM to @Sean12 to get account details. Somewhere along the way Eon Next have lost the plot on this case. Inadequate attempts have been made to contact a former customer and referral to Debt Collectors made in an unethical manner.
@Sean12 - you should complain in the strongest possible terms and demand a full apology and compensation.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Thanks a lot for your replies, I think I have resolved the matter after a long live-chat. Apparently after paying my last bill in 2022 instead of closing my account they kept it open and marked me as deceased! I’ve been assured that the account is now closed and this mysterious debt has been removed. If the debt collectors contact me again I will enjoy telling them where to go.
I'm very glad to hear you're still with us! Clearly there has been a bit of a mix up here.
I wonder, were you the executor of your Father's estate 🤔 it could be regarding this perhaps? Have you given Philips and Cohen a ring yet did they provide any further information? If there has been an error somewhere this will get resolved for you so try not to worry (I know it's easier said than done!)
As @JoeSoap has mentioned if the bill is valid then this may be eligible for back billing if it's over 12 months.

It’s great that it’s been resolved, but it shouldn’t have got to the stage it did. It is totally unacceptable for the first contact to be from debt collectors.
I sincerely hope that you are going to complain in the strongest possible terms.
This is what happens when actions are automated without human consideration of the facts.
This is getting really ridiculous now. After spending hours on Tuesday night getting this ordeal sorted and being told that the account is closed and not to worry I am now receiving emails from Eon saying the account is still active and asking me to phone them to clear it up.

Afternoon @Sean12 you are absolutely right it's totally ridiculous. Did @Milly_EONNEXT DM you if so I would get in touch with her. If not could @Han_EONNext or @DebF_EONNext please help to resolve this problem.
