The story seems consistent from last time, new meter installation gradually falling, 11% of smart meters in traditional mode, gas meters more likely than electric meters to be in traditional mode. Still its good for a laugh - except we're paying for this shambles.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
I think everyone who wants one probably has one by now. Obviously any new build is going to have one installed by default.
Rather like the sales of EVs dropping off. Those who want one (early adopters or businesses, mostly) will have already bought one and future demand will simply be incremental.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
I think OFGEM did say something about suppliers having to start spending as much effort on getting the dodgy ones working properly as they do in trying to hit their new installation quotas. It makes sense to ensure that those already installed are doing their thing before rolling out new ones.
@retrotecchie
I hope your install experience went better than ours.
I had to jump through hoops to get this answer from eon but hope it helps you and others applying for seg...
'To apply for SEG you would need a smart meter at the property to record your export reading. In cases where a smart meter is unable to be installed as a working smart meter, we can also install a meter in ‘dumb mode’ in which the meter wouldn't work as smart but would record the export from the solar panels to work with the SEG scheme.'
'To apply to SEG you would need an approved meter that records export, there are also standalone export meters. But you would need to purchase/discuss this with a separate company.'
I don't have a smart meter (don't want one and can't have one) and my solar was a DIY install and GFB so doesn't qualify for SEG as I don't export anything.
Trying to find answers on smart meters. I am being pressed to change my electric meter as I am told it is needing changing. However, I have not been given any information as to the expiration date and I have requested this.
If I am forced to switch to a smart meter on the "out of date", scenario, can I insist on having it in ",dumb mode".
This thread (see the post dated 22-6-23) suggests not. However, other internet searches yield results such as this which quote some suppliers saying that installing a smart meter in dumb mode is possible.
I would have thought that even if some suppliers say it is possible they'll make it as difficult as possible.
Is there a specific reason why you don't want them?
The only advantage they have for me is that I can take my gas reading from my IHD, but because I'm on E7 I still have to go into the garage to read the electric meter as the IHD only gives the total consumption. For folk that manage their usage smart meters don't add anything, like most things these days the only ones that really benefit are those pushing these schemes.
@Andy65
Thanks for info.The reason why i dont want a smart meter in full functionality is the display
(IHD). I know what energy I use, and I don't need to see daily information on a screen.
