I have a couple of months to go on a one year fixed tariff. On my latest statement it clearly states “early exit fee -none”.
When I use the app, and select “switch tariff” and choose another fixed tariff (different to my current one) a message pops up to say there is “an internal charge of £150” for switching to this tariff.
Can both of these statements be true?
Looks like I will have to wait for contract end, and then ditch EOn if they dont have a good price. So much for loyalty!!
They removed internal exit fees for many tariffs recently but for some reason it says None on some statements for tariffs that still have them. You could contact customer service to check for sure or wait until 49 days before your tariff ends when you can switch free of charge in any case.

11.1.3. If your tariff has an end date, we might charge you a fee, known as an exit fee, if you switch more than six weeks before that date. Your welcome letter will tell you about this.
... why do the terms and conditions mention 6 weeks (42 days) rather than 7 weeks (49 days)? Is this even legal?
Good question. This explains why I get confused about the period at the end of a contract where you can switch without fees and always have to look it up. I guess it depends where I land when I search and what I read at the time. This is clearly something for Eon Next to answer and, as the T&Cs are what we signed up to, they take priority and I would recommend that if in any doubt whatsoever, we (including @grlillywhite ) contact customer service when switching before the end of our tariff.

Condition 24 Termination of Domestic Supply Contracts
==> page 197 paragraph 24.17 Definition for condition
24.17 For the purposes of this condition “Switching Window” means the period which begins when the Domestic Statement of Renewal Terms is provided to the Domestic Customer, or 49 days before the date the fixed term period of a Fixed Term Supply Contract is due to end (whichever is earlier) and which ends on the date the fixed term period of a Fixed Term Supply Contract is due to end.
page 5 SLC 31I Contract changes information (notifications of price increases, disadvantageous unilateral variations and end of fixed term contracts)
Detailed rules that will still be in the licence
The switching window – a period before the end of a fixed-term contract when consumers have the right to switch without incurring exit fees (SLC 24.17) – starts from either 49 days before the end of a fixed term contract, or when a supplier sends the statement of renewal terms, whichever is earlier.
If you're on a variable tariff which has no fixed end date then you shouldn't have to pay any exit fees if you switch supplier.
If you're on a fixed tariff then you'll need to check with your current supplier if there are exit fees. However, even if there are exit fees, these can't be charged if you're within 49 days of your tariff ending.''
