Hi. My electricty meter went faulty maybe about 16 months ago. What should EON do so that I receive the benefit of any doubt, or that my usage is reasonably calculated? My solution would be to take previous annual electricy usage from some previous date range and use that as my usage over the past year and a bit. Thanks. My readings:
Meter has been changed this morning.I'm just wondering if anyone knows how EON will come up with my electricity usage, given that the meter has been "stuck" for over a year.
Eon Next will almost certainly use the EAU (Estimated Annual Uage) figures for your property which may or may not be close to your reality. Time to look back over as many statements as possible (go back before May 2022 if possible) with correct smart reads to work out a daily usage figure. Also pay attention to all the EAU's quoted to you over the past year or two as that will give you a big clue as to where Eon Next will pitch their estimate (as they should do for all estimated readings). I have no idea what kind of algorithm (easy of difficult) they use and/or whether they alter usage for the seasons. As suggested by @JoeSoap, look at similar periods in the past if possible and see what Eon Next gives as the closing estimated read for your stuck meter.
@JoeSoap - if you look at his manual readings, it looks like the meter has been "stuck" reading 2398 since march '23
Ah yes, I see that now. In that case, going by the smart readings, the latest estimates look low. It still begs the question about what customer service are saying. We don't yet know if they are involved.

I would guess they use historical usage data. If you can work back yourself over a previous similar period to that being estimated in order to come up with your own figure, it will enable you to challenge their estimate should you feel it necessary.
The meter guy this morning said that EON probably would refer to previous known usage. At the moment, the basis of previous usage that I know about is contained in my first post, that should provide something of a guide, but EON may have additional historical usage. I prefere to text EON, but I think the way EON will deal with this is over the phone. I've not analysed the above data yet to see what I can glean.
Looking at your numbers again your electricity usage from the smart readings look a little suspect as well. Month to month back in 2022 sees a fairly consistent 60-70kWh per month (my lowest electricity summer usage has been 160kWh). Could it be that the old meter was under-reading back in 2022? That is unless you are an extremely low user of electricity and/or you have solar to reduce your requirement from the grid.
