Hi, I had my "smart" meters fitted 28 feb, the technician didnt leave an Ihd as he said the meters werent connecting and someone would be in touch does anyone have any experience of this? i know they can sometimes take a few days or up to 6 weeks to start working but as he didnt leave an ihd i'm assuming I need another visit. The resonn I'm asking here is I'm being met with total silence to the emails and texts I've sent querying this
Thanks
Dave
Whether the meters are connecting or not, I would have felt better if an IHD had been left with them. This is where things go awry. It can take a few days to get a reply to emails but at least you have some record of trying to communicate with them whilst the issue is fresh. You could try a phone call or, if you think you've waited long enough for a reply, you could raise a complaint by emailing unhappy@eonnext.com stating where things are at and referencing your previous attempts to contact them for help.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
Whether the meters are connecting to the DCC and onto Eon Next, the communication from the meters is to the IHD via the communications hub. Therefore, the non communication with DCC is a red herring, and data from the meters would/should be visible if the IHD had been paired and left with the customer. Now another engineer visit is inevitable - perhaps this is a ruse by engineers to get paid for another visit. Most are sub contractors staff so this is of no benefit to Eon Next.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Many hubs don't communicate across the HAN to the IHD if WAN connectivity is not established. Leaving an IHD with an unconnected meter setup is a bit pointless as, until the meters can talk the talk, the IHD often can't be paired.
The system sucks. But that's how it was (poorly, in my book) implemented.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
I stand corrected. Any idea whether latest hubs are better than previous models in this respect? And can it mean that if the WAN subsequently goes down (after a successful installation) the HAN goes too?

No HAN if the WAN drops out. That's usually the reason why IHD's get stuck in the 'Waiting for data...' loop. Hubs should not show this behaviour as HAN and WAN are functionally isolated from each other (different radio systems) but many hubs do lock out the HAN if WAN fails. @geoffers has noted this with his hub, but I forget the model he has.
Thanks for the replies, I just got the feeling that once the "smart " meter is installed its a tick in the smart meter installation target box working or not and they're in no rush to sort it, maybe I'm just a cynical old git :)
Ticking the 'installation' box used to be it and all about it but that is no longer the case. I believe OFGEM are now pushing for non-functional meters to be fixed, SMETS1 to be replaced with SMETS2 and trying to get to where they should have been five years ago. And yet, more meters are dropping off line than they can install right now because of the 3G switch off, which the mobile networks are accelerating as they simply don't want to wait for the government 'sunset' in 2032.
