I'm not a huge fan of the Olympics but I couldn't help feel tearful and emotional for the athletes with an empty stadium. Quite a different scene to that of the Euros... After postponing the Olympics in Tokyo last year and the ups and downs of 'it's happening?/is it cancelled?' I have been trying to get myself interested and involved since watching the opening ceremony and I just adore the messages that the Olympics spread friendship, respect, and excellence as well as unity and sustainability.
Sustainability is one of the major themes for the Olympics and nearly 5000 medals have been made entirely from recycled consumer devices! I absolutely love the idea of using something as something else when it's original purpose is done.
Over on their Twitter page I have also spotted that they now have SURFING and Skateboarding for the first time ever in the Olympics! Japan won the gold for skateboarding!! It's awesome to see that these sports are being recognised. Do you watch the whole of the Olympics or just the sports you like? Any recommendations on what to watch?
@bekig it is so sad to see the empty stadium isn't it! Bit surreal really. I've always followed Tom Daly so to see that he and Matty Lee won gold today was amazing. I just need to catch up on actually watching it!
Love the recycled medals - such a symbolic and clever thing to do!
One of my friends here competed in the Olympics one year (don't ask me which) for bobsleigh! She put a fantastic patriotic post on Facebook the other day about how the Olympics promote passion, inspires us to be healthy and active and sparks national pride! GB have done fab today - 13 medals so far! 4 of which are gold!
It's going to be strange that the 2022 Winter Olympics will probably happen just one year after Tokyo 2020 and the 2024 Summer Olympics will be just three years after the 2020 Games. That could be fun...
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

@theunknowntech I do wonder how it will impact the athletes/future athletes but also the impact when Paris get the next Summer Olympics. Hopefully this C-19 has disappeared by then and life can resume!
Well, in theory it should be mostly fine by then. Paris 2024 is still three years away after all and I'm pretty confident that most of the issues will have settled way before the next Games.
