I've had a smart meter and IHD (SMETS2) since 2020 and it's all been working fine until this morning.
IHD was fine last night but this morning it's displaying no data, only stating 'waiting for current data' and then restarting itself every 20 seconds or so on a loop. The connection symbol in the top left corner is flashing constantly.
I've reset it a few times, and also done so right next to the meter to see if it will pair but to no avail. The meter itself is working fine with the WAN and HAN lights all green and flashing every 5 seconds as normal.
I don't know what to do to resolve this. Was working fine yesterday evening but not this morning. No power cuts during the night or anything like that.
Contacted E.ON and their advice was that if resetting it doesn't work then it must be broken and I need to buy a new one, but I don't believe that's correct - things don't just break for no reason. It's like it can't communicate with the smart meter anymore so there's something up with the signal between the two.
I'd welcome any suggestions - assume this issue is not unique to me!
Looking back at some threads where others have had this problem I can't actually find any solution. Is it just the IHD that is the problem and have you checked the meter is still communicating? You could try this... https://smartmetercheck.citizensadvice.org.uk/ and/or contact customer service to ask them to pull a reading to see if it works. If everything else is ok then it may indeed be your IHD. You could check out an Ivie Bud... https://ivie.co.uk/product/ivie-bud/ who I believe offer sound advice and have a good returns policy should their IHD not work. That's about all I can think of right now.
Unplug the IHD from the mains supply and just let the battery drain. When you get nothing, now reconnect to the socket and switch the thing on. Leave it to reconnect if it is able to.
Other than the above, time to think about getting the Bright app (unless you already use it) to give you most of the functionality available to you on the IHD. 👍
@JoeSoap thanks for responding. Yes the meter is still communicating - I'd checked that link. I just find it bizarre that in the space of a few hours it can go from fine to not working, without anything odd happening or it not even being touched.

Thanks - I've downloaded the app. I'll let the battery drain out and see if that helps matters

I had a loss of comms last year even though the meters were working in smart mode according to citizens advice. It just might be worth asking customer service to try to pull a reading. As much info as possible will help, even just eliminating things.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
The problems that smart metering can cause are many and various, as evidenced by the number of queries we get here on the forum related to them, the meters themselves, their IHDs, radio and mobile communications, the DCC and the suppliers BOL. However, the number of issues relating to traditional meters is near enough zero (leaving a little wiggle room - just in case!). Indeed I've just had an idea for a poll!
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Afternoon @Reddensg1981 After letting the battery drain and positioning your IHD near meter, it might be worth switching Wi-Fi router off and other devices to flight mode for about 30 minutes to reduce the 2.4 ghz influence and improve the chance of the IHD to connect.

I spoke to customer services this morning and they've confirmed that the meter is reporting normally so at least the meter is working fine - looks like the communication link between the meter and the IHD. They've referred it to their smart team who will get back to me 'at some point'.

Thanks for the suggestion - I tried that and unfortunately it didn't work.
