Good old RAC. Called them at about 6pm on Tuesday and they arrived at 4.20am on Wednesday morning.... only a ten hour wait. Good job the car was on my drive and I didn't have to sit in it (or on a grass verge) and wait.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
As usual, the article focusses on the comparison of going out and buying new cars. The forget to tell you the EV costs more up front than a petrol or diesel vehicle, usually costs a lot more to insure and comes with a raft of other expenses that slightly detract from the savings in fuel.
I can safely say that, compared to financing, insuring and running an EV, my 18 year old 'bought and paid for' turbodiesel works out several hundred pounds a year less to run than a new EV and has fully paid back the front loaded carbon used in it's manufacture more than twice. There isn't an EV on the road in the UK today that can make that claim, and probably won't be for another five or six years.

No mention of the apparent current depreciation of EVs offsetting the savings in running costs. It would be best to compare the overall cost of say owning a new car for three years and taking everything into account when comparing equivalent models of EV and ICE.

As for the AA I can still remember standing in the rain on the M6 for 4hrs. Then being taken to the services to await further transportation. Got home at 02:00 next day. I'd left where I was working at 17:00. I was only 40 miles from work to home. 😂
Only fuel costs are considered in the report underpinning the RAC article.
It's not changed my view one iota.
My missus used to take breakdown calls for the AA. In terms of backroom technology they were very advanced, operating from one control room for the whole UK in early 2000's - as I told one cabinet minister during a fireman's strike - rather different to the multiple control centres used by the 3 frontline emergency services

Tesla got in at the right time, but I think their days are numbered now. There are at least twenty other brands who have finally got their act together and they have now lost their No. 1 spot to BYD. Sales of EV's have flattened in the last 18 months and I see that trend continuing for the next couple of years. EVs won't be the answer until billions have been spent on a new National Grid infrastructure, but that is not going to be an easy process until folk realise that a modern, effective grid rather trumps NIMBYism. The UK has potential for at least another 10GW of clean energy generation capacity but until the power can be effectively conveyed from source to sink, it won't be happening any time soon.
