Just got a message from EON Next about the cap for next year with an estimate on my annual costs. So far I've been paying about £1000 a year or so, now it jumps to almost £5000 for next year? How is that ? Any help appreciated thanks

Have you been paying enough? What do your bills say your consumption has been relative to what you have been paying? Prices go up in January by 5%, not 400%!
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

Can you give us more information please?

    • Account balance.
    • Annual consumption in kWh for what you used in the last year if you know these figures.
    • Estimated Annual Consumption in kWh from latest statement.
    • Are the last meter reads actual or estimated?
    • Are you paying by DD monthly?
    • Are you on Next Flex? If not what tariff?

Hi sorry not to give enough info. This is what Eon Next sent for estimate 2024, due to the change in price cap :

    Your energy prices are changing.

    Hi,

From 1 January Ofgem's price cap is going up. You can see the impact on your yearly energy costs below, and the attached document gives you all the info you need including your old and new prices.

We check your Direct Debit amount regularly (at least every 3 months) and if it needs to change, we'll drop you a line.

    Get more accurate bills.
If you don't have a smart meter, it's a good idea to take a meter reading to make sure your bills are as accurate as possible, but you can send it to us up to 5 days before 1 January, it doesn't have to be on the day. The easiest way is in your online account. Or get a smart meter and you won't need to worry!

We're still looking out for you.
We've always got your back - if you're struggling to pay for your energy, see how we can help.

Any way we can help, we will.

PS From 1 February 2024 your tariff, Next Flex, will no longer come with 100% renewable electricity as standard and your terms and conditions will be updated.

Here's what we think you'll pay over the next 12 months

    Estimated annual costs until
    31 December 2023:
    Electricity: £4,717.40
    Estimated annual costs from
    1 January 2024:
    Electricity: £4,833.52
    Price difference:
    Electricity: £116.12 increase
All this was based (I think) on this that I got from the PDF they sent:
    Electricity:

    Your tariff Next Flex
    Payment method Direct Debit
    Estimated annual
    usage
    Day 12,251.8 kWh
    Night 584.1 kWh
    Total 12,835.9 kWh

This was my old bill as of 22nd September 2023 :

Your tariff info. (all prices include VAT)
    Tariff name Next Flex
    Starts from 12:00 AM, 22nd Sep 2023
    Electricity
    Day rate 36.57p per kWh

    Night rate 13.19p per kWh

    Standing charge 43.75p per day

    Exit fees None
    Annual usage.

    Electricity 2,444 kWh

Estimated costs. (all prices include VAT)
    Monthly amount £77.60
    Yearly amount £931.21

I have been sending meter readings since I've had my credit meter in September regularly. They have been right as far as I know. The amounts haven't been much different to my old prepayment meter. If you need more info let me know

The immediate things that spring to mind are…

    1. What was your ACTUAL consumption in kWh over the last year? How does this compare to your ESTIMATED annual consumption?

    2. You seem to be on a dual rate tariff but your estimated night usage is very low. That means you pay over the odds for your considerable estimated day usage in order to save a bit on your low estimated night usage.

I pay 30.41p per kWh and 37.63p standing charge on my current fixed tariff (Eastern Region) so you may be better off on a standard tariff rather than dual rate.

The 22nd September into suggests that your EAC (Estimated Annual Consumption) is 2444 kWh. We have no idea ATM whether or not this is a realistic number. I suspect not as you use the same amount of electricity as I do but I use gas for my heating and DHW needs. Perhaps meter reads (inc the opening read) from this date would be helpful (both day and night readings) . Better still might be to also include meter reads from December 2022 to September 2023 with the prepayment meter. You should be able to see these meter readings in your online account plus an indication of the type of read (smart/customer/estimated/meter reader).

What type of heaters do you have in your home and when do you use them? How is now water provided? What type of house do you live in?

@aaabbbccc Hello 👋, I've edited your post to remove some personal information. Some great advice by @Mailman @JoeSoap @retrotecchie and @meldrewreborn
here. I would take a look at your payments to billing to see if your payments have been enough to cover your usage. Have you spoken to one of our Energy Specialists at all? It would be great to hear an update 😀
