I'm not going to get into too much of a sweat about my energy bills this winter (even on VDD) as I was fortunate to be able to stash some money into 'Ernie' prior to last winter anticipating I'd have to use a good chunk of that. As it turned out EPG and EBSS + general household energy reduction meant I was not that much worse off than the heady days of 2020 before the proverbial hit the fan.
Without doubt the single determinant as to my winter fuel consumption (esp gas) will be dependent on Mother Nature. If our heating needs to be on, it goes on at whatever the thermostat is set to (currently 17.5C -18C during the day). If the same consumption takes place over the next 12 months (as per the last) then I'll be expecting to cough up in the region of £1400 between 1st August 2022 - 31st July 2023 on my current Fixed tariff (Loyalty v4). I don't expect it to be lower than this but am prepared for another 'Beast from The East' should this arrive.
Reading that your October gas consumption is 61% up on last year, coupled with @Mailman saying his is up 45%, has made me feel a bit less worried. Seems last October could have been a warm one.
I think it was, looking at my daily gas numbers for 2022 😁
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Well, the October results are in and they make grim reading. I had predicted gas usage of 1080kWh, an increase of 55% on last October. The reality was 1201kWh, a thumping increase of 74%. Still, at least I'm 17% down on October 2021. Electric was much as expected with a drop of 4% from last year.
So, the last quarter has seen an increase in gas of 35% and a decrease in electric of 3%. Fingers crossed for a mild winter 🤞

Found gas was up this October compared with last by 8.74%. On a positive side electricity was down by 12.68%. Just as a reference there is only 2 of us. I'll have to go back and rethink the gas usage. 👹
