First off, about the tariffs, I would anticipate the decision to be around offering an incentive for our customers or who have had an install from Eon Solar/Solutions. Now from my understanding and research, many providers have a default and then an increased rate.

With regards to the batteries, you would have a schematic diagram that would show what's been installed etc, in terms of deal breakers the regulations did change with regards to this, if your unsure about your diagram, I would speak to your installer who should clarify in an instant.

I would advise though the regulations are the same for each supplier, each supplier/licensee has the same rules which we all must adhere to.

By all means contact the SEG team and they will be able to answer any questions you have etc or if you need anything applying.

@LeeDQ_EONNext That's useful info thanks. My situation is I'm just considering it at the moment and from what the installer has quoted and shown I can see no path directing power from the grid to the battery. But of course I would have to get that confirmed.

My main concern was the break even point which according to the quote is around 12 years. But, that was based on the FIT 3p rate. Putting the 16p figure in gives me around £260/yr more. Unfortunately that is not enough to reduce the pay off duration by much but it is going in the right direction. It all depends on the long term trend of electricity rates which my quote has an assumption of 5% increase/yr. I have no idea if that will be the case - could go up or down of course.

FIT and SEG are financially made up differently when it comes to rates and payments. Lets just talk FIT for a moment. FIT is a scheme where the rates are decided by Ofgem, despite the Energy Licensees making the payments, the money is claimed back from the Government, at the end of each tax year.

SEG - Is paid for by the Energy supplier, so this is why you see different rates supplier to supplier, where as FIT - the rate is set by install date, eligibility date depending on when the solar was installed/eligible. The rules changed a few times over the years.

SEG rates are also set by the energy suppliers which is why they are different across the industry.

@IanG Lets say if the above was your schematic diagram, based on the above, you would not have had the same issue as above. The above was discussing 'battery back to grid' with the battery not being wired to the grid, again this is based on the above.

I would ask for the specific battery diagram if they can give you this at this stage?

The team will need your completed install battery schematic if you go ahead.

Any system where stored battery energy is passed back to the grid should be an absolute no-no. Brown energy, as it is known as, is simply a way for people who can afford the up front cost to game the system. You don't even need solar panels!

@retrotecchie 100% agree, there was a change to some regulations about batteries, however each system is reviewed and then eligibility confirmed or rejected. I'm not exactly sure about the wording on the change but I will try to find it.

i may be wrong but as I see it, you should be eligible as long as your battery system has no way to force discharge that stored energy back to the grid? My main question is would I be eligible for exclusive export if I was on next drive for my import?

Each system is different so we would always go by the diagrams and go from there.

If you're an Eon Next customer you will be entitled to the Exclusive export. Let me know if you need anything else.
